Guys - I must admit I haven't given this much thought until over this weekend. And now it's worrying me a bit.

I got a years insurance when I bought my car. It's with Oman Insurance. It says its comprehensive.

What things do I need to make sure is included in the policy to have peace of mind? Then I can go to the company and make sure I'm properly covered.

Cheers all,

J.

If this is in the UAE, as far as I remember, its just the car that is insured - with any driver or driver + passenger. So the important thing is to get the paperwork insuring the car itself. They should be able to give you some sort of policy reference number or a certificate of insurance to go with the car. If you only get the policy reference, you should be able to call Oman Insurance and get them to verify it.

Hi ya - thanks. Yes, sorry, it is the UAE...specifically Abu Dhabi. I have got paper work, and it says comprehensive...but it doesn't mention anything about the so-called 'Bloody money' cover, or driver/passenger injury cover etc. I was just looking for a list of things I definitely should make sure I have so I can ask the right questions when I call the insurer.

Cheers,
J.

'Agency repair' is always good to see on a policy!!

As is 'GCC cover' if you plan on goint to Oman or elsewhere.

And don't forget to check the agreed value in case of total loss.....

If they ask you more for agency repair, then in the past I have gone for the cheaper quote, on the basis that I can always request an agency repair and pay the difference if I'm not satisfied with their choice of repairer. Depends on the car I guess.

Good to have breakdown cover included (AXA do this). Cover in Oman is useful and often included as standard in policies (same again, AXA do this). Some insurers take account of no claims, some don't. Ring around.

Also their back office is important. I can imagine handling claims with some companies would be a nightmare.

Funnily enough, one of the guys here was insured with Axa and wrote his car off a few weeks back. Judging from the amount of swearing, faxes and God knows what that he was sending them, they were pretty ste!
