using CARDS in Dubai

Hi guys, I am coming to Dubai next week for a holiday

I heard that due to the recent problems...a lot of places accept cash only. Is it only credit cards they are not accepting or is it credit AND debit cards

is this true...or can debit cards be used fine...or would I need to bring cash in pounds and convert it to Dirhams etc

I think Dubai would cease to exists if credit card weren't allowed! Never heard anything about that before.

Not sure about the debit card side of things - my bank doesn't even issue them!

I don't know whether switch/maestro cards would work other than in an ATM. But if you have a Visa debit, then it should work...all my UK ones do.

If it is a visa debit card then you will have not problems at the usual places that accept credit cards.

I g0t some juice a couple of months ago and they'd removed the ATM machine from the shop bit so I was a bit screwed.

I had to leave my drivers license with them until I could get back and pay in cash later that evening - didn't except CCs

Erm, the green ones. Enoc? Got some today in the arse end of Muhaisnah so I'm sure their more central stations must be doing the same.
