I'm in the process of moving to Qatar.

My VXT is modified for track use with Nitrons suspension etc...

What are peoples view to exporting to over??

are the roads be suitable?

what insurance in available, its coming up to 5 years old?
can you recommend any companies?

can you get 98 or 99 octane fuel? (Its mapped to 98)

are there any local tracks that operate track days?

any other information would be great.

Thanks in advance

Well if the rules are similar to the UAE, then you can forget it if it's right hand drive. Are the roads suitable in Qatar? Simple answer is no.

I made some tentative enquiries about importing my Dax when i arrived three years ago and the responses were that it wouldnt be possible due to lack of air bags etc. I didnt hear anything about the RHD thing being an issue. The best thing to do would be to check in more depth when you get here. It also helps if you have the right friends in a country like this.

Having said all that, there's a KTM X-Box in the Alfardan showroom at the moment and it's road legal.

The main roads round Doha will be fine, some of the smaller back roads are riddled with potholes, and there seems to be a phase of putting in stupid speed bumps. A friend has problems with the speed ramps and back streets in a standard 350Z.
I'm not sure about insurance companies or if the car will be allowed in. Have a look on the Ministry of the Interia website. www.moi.gov.qa
98ron is everywhere at about 11p a litre.
Losail does trackdays.

well i arrived in Qatar almost 2 months ago now and seem to be settling in ok. had the company rep look into getting my vx over here and looks bleak. but thinking about it, with ambient temp being to high i doubt it would feel the same as the uk any how due to the increase in inlet temps... so i'll be sticking with my 4x4 till i get the itch for something fun..

then to top it off i got a 600QR fine in my second week from an under cover camera.. bugger.

aahh well.

The X Bow is still in the Al Fardan showroom so it looks like heat is putting a lot of folk off. I'm amazed it's lasted this long unsold, i'd quite happily drive it!

cheers,

Turbo's in the summer will not be idea; a lack of cold dense air will make the performance a little weaker and the engine overheat much more possible. Best stick to N/A and make frequent checks on air filter quality; they clog up quick - best check each 5,000 Kms. Also a good idea to keep the wax level up on the body work, these sand storms do chaff off the lacquer - you can get your car wrapped in plastic film for protection but this can also dull over time and putting a giant condom on your car is a little bit strange and can be expensive.

If you do pick up a track day car then get yourself along to Losail, often have run-what-you-brung days, a lot of locals come along so expect to see nice cars; last time I was there was a sweet Ferrari 599 being driven hard. Its worth keeping a track on Losail, local dealers and maunfacturers come out for product launches and sometimes F1 team come out for hot weather testing - motoring press dont often lurk at the track so its a good place for secret tweaking.
