Dune Driving in Dubai?

Fancy having a pop at full on driving in the Dunes (I am an experienced off road driver!)

Does anyone have any contacts in Dubai for companies who let you drive?

Seen a few web-sites for "Dubai Desert Safaris" - but look a bit naff - "..you will be driven by our expert driver...." and they inlcude a cheesy "barbecue"

Would rather do the proper driving and then something more authentic!

I cannot remember when or where it is, but when i used to live out there, expats would get together and just go out in the desert duning...

Funny that; I was out on a full-on camping/dune bashing trip this week-end and have re-designed the front of the Tahoe. Rather enthusiastic over a lip and had all 4 wheels off the ground. Lost the front lip and wheel-arch lining, bent the bumper mounts and spider-cracked some paint. Was well worth it

I believe there are a couple of places that take you out on Quad bike or buggy safaris where you drive, not sure about self-drive. Perhaps try bluebanana.ae? they might have a offroad training session up for grabs?

Just went out with some friends. Awesome trip, just trying to re-build the Tahoe after a bit of enthusiastic air time...
