Dubai Porsche OPC
Discussion
This is a copy of a post I made on the Porsche Thread, thought those of you who live here would appreciate it!
"I have one of the 1st months delivery of the new GT3 scheduled for Dubai in September (according to my OPC).
Funny thing is, on seeing the webpage change I contacted the OPC who asked where I was getting the details from. I told him the Porsche website - he knew nothing... Nice to see the right hand is talking to the left hand. I hope that when they do start talking I don't suddenly find myself with a June 2010 delivery!
Typical Dubai, too busy taking deposits to keep up to date with developments.
Can't complain too much as they did invite me to the Porsche Roadshow next week at Dubai Autodrome, I bet they don't have one of these to play with though. I will just have to wait until September "
Only in Dxb would you see the dealer so disconnected from the manufacturer!

I've got a deposit down for the very same car - spoke to a fella called Ross at the OPC who did seem to know what he was talking about.
I did the roadshow a couple of years ago - great laugh.
If this helps... Just this morning I dropped off my car for service (took over an hour to book it in and get a cab in typical Al Naboodah fashion!) and I spotted a few cars outside with roadshow stickers on - including a GT2!
So it looks like you'll have some fun!

What are they saying? I'll call Wissam later in the week but he said before the announcement that I was in September delivery with a July build. Have they committed on price yet?Glad to see you have issues with service. I left car over xmas break (12 days) for them to do warranty extension. When I went to pick it up they had not done it! I had to wait nearly 2 hours to get this done. In the end they did not have the person to sign the warranty document. I am still waiting for it... Quality
Much as I encourage people to avoid the OPC on account of its diabolical service, if you absolutely have to go, there seem to be no waiting lists at the moment for servicing, and they seem to be getting desperate for business.
God knows what they're going to do with that mega facility in Jebel Ali - I hear a rumour that this has been put on hold.

If it wasn't for the warranty, I would be doing the same!
Had my 911cs in 3 times for front suspension problem last year. Each time they took it apart, replaced a few bits and didn't solve the problem... Cost me lots for labour each time.
Some of the manufacturers must really regret some of the agency agreements they have in the middle east.

I'm only going to them for warranty reasons.
Got a text at 4:30pm telling me it was ready. When I turned up at 6:00pm to collect, there was no one else there and I still had to wait over 30mins before they brought the car round.
I know these cars are never going to be cheap to run but it still seems mad what I was charged for basically an oil & pads change that I could have done in half an hour.
Anyway...

Hi,
Ross is a good lad at the dealership. Pretty knowledgeable on the product, and has a good level of communication with the clientele. The service department is another story.
I was looking into getting some aftermarket wheels for my car, Champion RS171. Mentioned it casually whilst in for a service only to be told by the service advisor that it would invalidate the full warranty !!. Got him to check with the boss who reconfirmed that. I emailed Porsche Germany for further guidance, only to be referred back to my nearest dealership...... in Dubai !. Same service advisor told me i could not get a copy of the work carried out as part of a service recall on the VTG's. Very frustrating.
Call me old fashioned, but i like to see a cars logbook with dealer stamps in it. However there comes a time when you have to draw the line at a sub standard service and go elsewhere. Any feedback on Ali & Sons in Abu Dhabi ?.
RSPhil, where do you go now ?.
Congratulations on the GT3 orders, looks fantastic and it seems like it will retain the GT1 block. I think the price for the last GT3 was 377 000 Dhs.
Rgds.

Well I have a little more information for those in Dubai.
The full price list and options for the new GT3 should be available at the end of next week.
July build for September delivery.
Engine is based on GT1 block (I think).
I am first on the list
Starting price is guessed to be AED410k (this is my calc using the exchange rate calculated by US$ price $87k for CS and Dxb price is AED320k).
The US$ GT3 price is $112k and the AED410k comes about using the same exchange rate.
As AED is pegged to the US$ I think it will not be far from true. That will be a 9% rise - a little high me thinks in the current economic climate...

Hi,
seems a bit of a price rise. I might head down to the dealership tommorrow and see what they are saying about slots. I had a deposit down on the previous GT3 but failed to gain a slot. Got the money refunded then went back a month later and put it down on another car !.
Even now i keep reading just how good the GT3 is and it makes me want to spend some time driving one.
The wait will be difficult for sure !!.
