Firstly wavey to all on this forum, I usually don't venture away from the TVR ones...

I am currently thinking about a job opportunity in Abu Dhabi, all but one of the things which was keeping me in the UK have now gone... apart from my p&j a TVR Tuscan S Mk II. Has anyone imported a TVR to the UAE, is it practical to even think about it or am I living in cuckoo land? Sorry I know it is a bit of an open ended question but don't really know where to start.

Thanks RB

Of the 2 people I have known who have owned TVRs in Dubai, both have had major reliability issues. The car simply cannot cope with the heat.

Also getting parts and finding someone capable of servicing them will be a nightmare. Many years ago there was an authorised agent who imported TVRs but I think he must have given up in disgust.

Great car, but I'm afraid Dubai is not the place for it. Corvette much more suitable for the climate and easily maintained.

Have to with Harris.

It's also the reason why I didn't go down the route of importing an Exige - servicing and reliability issues.

my V8S used to overheat in Sheffield, so I don't think they will do too well out here

which is a a shame as i'd love another one

Hey guys, just happened across your thread. Hows things?

I have a Chim here and it has dual fans fitted behind the radiators which do a nice job of keeping it coolish. Temp to date has never been over 90 deg(indicated). Admittedly due to the very poor AC it doesn't get driven in the summer much but the rest of the time she goes a treat. I have replaced all the bushings, hoses, fuel lines etc as they were rather perished. Time for tyres now though which I seemingly cannot get here at all (original 15 & 16 wheels). Reliability is good - Just fired her up tonight after three weeks away and she went on the second go.

What colour is yours?

I remember sitting at a set of lights this time last year and hearing what I thought was a familiar sound, then seconds later having a very nice Chim pull along side me. I followed it down on to the Shaky Z at defence roundabout towards Emirates Towers just to listen to it and watch it go.

"I followed the car because it sounded nice"...another case of the petrolhead love of V8 rumbles that daren't speak it's name in the cold light of normal society!

I did the same thing with a spanking new Challenger today on that same stretch of road...

Hi,

great car. Had a mica blue Chimaera in the UK a while back, hairdressers version as only 4 litres !. Remember getting some leave from work and driving almost 3000 miles in a week, fantastic memories. What a sound, addicted to that V8 rumble.

Work colleague still has a 5 litre one here in Dubai i think.

Rgds.

By strange coincidence, I happened to spot a lovely black Tuscan today outside the Welcare Hospital in Garhoud.

Anyone on here?

I tried and failed to catch the driver's eye. It was bloody hot today, hope the car was coping.

I drove the chim to work yesterday and she absolutely loved the spanking on the trip home. Again temp didn't quite touch 90. It's good to know there are a few others out here still on the road.

I am assuming these cars would have to be LHD?

Yes. Mine is one of the 5 imported for the 1998 motorshow. The RTA won't register RHD cars here with the exception of real special stuff.

Wow – I haven’t been on PH for some time and was really surprised to see my thread pop back up again. It is great to hear that there are some troopers out here flying the flag for TVR, I wish you all the best! :doffs hat:

Having been out here for nine months now I think I shall be leaving my baby tucked up in storage back in the UK (especially as it is heating up somewhat here).

Safe Driving All!

P.S. I am extremely jealous of the chap with the Tuscan S, I really really miss mine frown

Still flying the flag, weather cooling (or at least it seemed to at the weekend) and it's nice to be sliding about again with the roof down. Neowm...

The few TVR owners in the UAE may be pleased to know that Mark Adams is spending more and more time in Dubai mapping ECU's on a dyno for various vehicles. To date we have done over 16 vehicles and this includes Land Rover Defenders (diesel), Rover V8's and a couple of supercharged RR Sports. He is expected to be back in Dubai during the first week of November 09 if anyone is interested.

Brilliant news! I'm needing someone I can trust to do my Vette when the engines in it.
I've met Mark a few times and get on really well with him so it would be great to meet him here.

I saw a black tuscan over the weekend. Saw it's rear and was an 's'; probably the same one that others have seen.
