A few friends are considering taking our cars to Europe for the summer. If anyone has any information on obtaining comprehensive insurance for the cars to be driven in Europe on UAE plates I would be very grateful if you could share them.

Thanks

Pop a post in the Middle East section on here, there are some fairly well connected peeps on there who may well know the chaps who bring their cars to London each year on DXB plates and may be able to find out what they do about insurance.

I bought mine back to the UK from DXB but as a permanent import so I just got export insurance (and the blue plates) from RTA - not much use for you I'm afraid.

Would it just be a case of insuring the cars on the VIN number?

Its not easy, I used to insure my Caterham with AXA in Dubai, and they used to give me "green card" cover for europe, but that stopped some years ago, due I believe to EU legislation

Subsequently, the only insurance I could get was from

European cover, but only 3rd party, though that may be due to the car.

Strangely, the insurance was supplied by ...... you guessed it, AXA! go figure.
