UK car insurance
Discussion
I have a UK license but with my old UK address on it. Thought I'm not supposed to use this now as the address is wrong and I've effectively exchanged the license for a UAE one.
Do you lot just use your old UK license and register/insure the car to your UK address or address of a relative?

Hi All,
I'm considering picking up a car to use in the UK when I'm home instead of having to rent. Is it possible to register and insure the car in your own name?
Any info much appreciated.

Check the T&C's, but you're classed as a non-UK resident. So technically you're not legal.I'm considering picking up a car to use in the UK when I'm home instead of having to rent. Is it possible to register and insure the car in your own name?

As said, if you have a UK license and UK address, i don't know how they check your resident status (doubt they do).
Not sure if its a better option for your parent/family to insure it and add you on as a named driver (my mum sometimes add's me on her insurance when I visit).
I went through this recently.....
technically, if you are non-resident most policies are not valid. Although you can get a policy on a UK address with UK license, you might have issue if ever found out during a claim. Adding a named driver who is non-resident isnt straightforward either.
In the end, I went through a specialist broker and paid a chunk of cash for peace of mind that the car was covered properly. For a cheaper car, I might have taken the risk.
Its a bit of a challenge if you declare it. If you dont declare it, its easy but "might" be a challenge at time of claim.
For a short term insure, there are many services aimed at expats wanting insurance on friends cars for a couple of weeks. That didnt cover my needs though.
