Maybe this has been discussed in the past on this sub-forum, but I cannot find anything. So starting a new thread.

What is the general view on Jap imports here in the UAE? Yes warranty's do not apply, and yes they are not GCC spec (less fans, sub-standard A/C?). Are parts hard to find? Are parts that much different from the so called GCC spec?

Has anyone got any real experiences? Are they worth the punt or a nightmare to re-sell later. Not looking at any models in particular. Just curious as they are of course a lot cheaper than the local motor.

Had my s500 for 2 and a half years now. Jap spec.
Servicing, parts, insurance....no issues at all.
Buy on condition, cant see any issues aside from the limited FM band on the stereo.
Bought mine for next to nothing and although its got a bit of parking rash its been fine.

I bought an M3 Japanese import a few years back. Was in excellent condition and had been well looked after. I did have trouble getting parts but that was due to its age related than it being from Japan. Insurance cost the same and was easy to sell due to its condition. I'd have another import over a GCC car as they are generally better looked after and have lived in a more temperate climate.

Guy i know bought a Merc E55 AMG , hes an ex mercedes guy and said the car is mint with no issues.

Obviously as with any used car in the UAE do your homework and dont be afraid to walk away but i think there are genuinely some bargains to be had.
