Anyone fancy Jebel Jais very early Friday am?
Discussion
I've got a rare weekend off the golf course, have a work brunch at Creek Golf club at 12.30pm on Friday, I am toying with the idea of going to check out this road that goes up Jebel Jais very early Friday am, anyone else fancy it?
For those unaware, Jebel Jais is the highest peak in the UAE and has a relatively new twisty piece of tarmac winding it's way up it (see below) for the fun part.
Porsche club go up this quite regularly I believe?
I'm thinking off setting off at silly o clock, say 5.30/6 it's about a 2.5 hour drive to the top I think, through RAK via MBZ or the 611.
Blast up, take a photo or two and then drive home, maybe stop for some breakfast at Tower Links or somewhere similar.
Can be combined with a trip to Barracuda or the like.
Anyone else keen?

Worth the trip, it's a great bit of road.... crazy busy though, I'd aim to get there at first light.
Last time I went I got there about 9.30 and it was already waaay to busy to really have any fun.
Noted, cheers Derek, hope you're well?Last time I went I got there about 9.30 and it was already waaay to busy to really have any fun.
Other than that, I'm good cheers!!
15th of April and it was very quiet ...
1st of July it was equally quiet just a lot hotter ...
However, with the weather cooling off, I suspect Del is right and it will be starting to get busy. I could be up for a drive but cannot confirm until later in the week. Would be nice to meet a few from on here.

Mine's the yellow 650S.
Have never seen either a camera or police presence on the actual road up Jais but then there was a recent report of plans to build several police posts on the way up ... so do it sooner rather than later if you want to enjoy it.
I shall check back on this thread later in the week (and may see some of you Friday).

Went up this twice this weekend just gone on both Friday and Saturday mornings... Approx 9am on Saturday morning, aside from a few cyclists at the bottom, didn't pass anything else at all up or down. Even the temporary camp sites were empty. Friday a bit busier with overnight campers moving about...including four guys walking a still-erected tent down the hill,, not sure who was more surprised - them or us to be met mid corner! No cameras or police, just watch out for the trucks towards the top that are occasionally moving around clearing the rubble for the new bit of road to the peak.
We did a few runs yesterday - phenomenal road. It was my first time up - so much better than Jebel Hafeet. Likewise very little traffic and no police, but the heavy trucks were a real issue - especially in the dark as a couple had no rear lights. I would get there while you can - once there is a hotel on the top the party will be over.
Is anyone still going tomorrow morning?

I'm 505/50 at this point, been in the office since 7am and no light at the end of the tunnel. Is anyone still going tomorrow morning?
Will update later.
Count me in almost certainly for the next one - have something on tomorrow that has only now been confirmed for certain but I see it has been deferred.
As I have a car that pales into insignificance with what has been posted above, happy to be a pax/camera holder/wielder of the GoPro on a stick :-)
Otherwise will try and nick my mates Jaguar (sedan - nothing fancy)
