How do you insure your 10yr+ car?
Discussion
Well as the title suggests my 911 turbo will be 10 in March and the insurance company have told me they will insure it to 10.5yrs as per renewal date and then to the under writers up to a max of 11yrs old for fully comprehensive insurance.
Now I bought the car hoping to keep it, take it back to Europe in 5yrs and maybe have a modern classic but the if I can't insure it fully comprehensively I may need to rethink that.
3rd party is fine if you can afford the parts and repair off the shelf but parts aren't easy to come by here and nor are they cheap and labour, you get what you pay for.
So thoughts, anyone been here and took a certain direction? My current insurer is AIG if that helps.
Thanks,
Kempus

i believe AIG can do FC if you have more than 300k of assets insured under them [house and car].
this is done by having the car insured as third party [legal requirement plus cover to whomever you hit] and the rest as an asset based on the cars value.
jase knows a company who can do this for classics and has his car insured as such.

I guess I'm not a good example...
My old 635 CSI and Porsche 928 I just went 3rd Party, easy decision at their value.
NSX and Esprit V8 were a more considered decision, but again 3rd Party.
There'll all gone now, but here's the big decision - Porsche 356. 3rd party. Jensen will be the same when it finally arrives. I think the hassle of sorting fully comp outweighs the risk, changing policies, sequencing the day cars and house policies, etc etc, I mean what's the worst that can happen!
As I say not the best example, but certainly the most expedient.

details on the 356 please!
is julian [A-tech] building your jensen?
The 356 is a 1963 T6-B Coupe. Currently completely stripped at AAA and being returned to original Bali Blue from red. Re-wiring, re-upholstering etc etc but getting there. Ben and the AAA guys have done some great bodywork. Uncharacteristically I'm keeping it standard.is julian [A-tech] building your jensen?
The Interceptor is over in Dallas TX. It's an Interceptor III with a 440 being stroked and bored to 518, 6 barrel EFI, new tranny etc, Restomod AC, re-wired etc. Texas Auto Preservation are working on it - maybe see it here next year! This one is a potential money pit that'll never be worth half what is going into it!

Did you buy the 356 from Emirates auction?
If so my mastery of car classified sites is complete
Your skills are strong! Yes, Emirates Auctions, I'd hadn't quite grasped the rules so paid over the odds to end it... spent a while sorting the transfer, got it home and stripped it If so my mastery of car classified sites is complete
Apologies for the thread creep!
you should start a new thread for it. i'll look forward to seeing it built.
i was going to bid based on what it was up for with a day to go. yes i do think the sale price was a touch strong but if you're happy with it that's all that matters.
doubt i'd be keeping it stock mind, outlaw all the way!

I had my 360 and Cayenne insured FC with AIG and I definitely didn't have more than 300k of (other) assets insured with them, only the 2 cars.this is done by having the car insured as third party [legal requirement plus cover to whomever you hit] and the rest as an asset based on the cars value.
