Hi chaps
Just booked to be in Dubai for a week end of May and have reserved room in the Oasis Beach apartments on JBR.
Now, when I left Dubai a couple of years ago they had started construction of another resort block directly opposite the Oasis Beach. Does anybody know if this has been finished yet? Just curious if will be faced by view of a nice tower block or labourers sleeping in unusual places. Or half finished construction works with a thick veneer of dust and sun bleached 'Opening June 2014' signs?
I am also considering hiring a car for the week, given that the entrance to the car park is directly from The Walk am I investing in a lot of time sitting in the traffic? What is the traffic like there now that the restaurant developments are complete? We are only there Friday to Friday so maybe only have 2 nights of bad traffic, Sat and Thurs?
Any advice gratefully received, can't wait to get there!
Cheers
J

Traffic in the the Marina is crazy at times. Especially on Thurs/Fri evenings. I'd also avoid driving anywhere near The Walk, unless you're happy with slow traffic.
Here's pic I've just taken from my balcony. I assume Oasis Beach is on the right of the image? Still lots of construction going on over there...

so you finally recovered from that last brunch then?
the new towers aren't finished, meydan beach club has work ongoing and then there's the dubai eye construction. it's not going to be picturesque.
traffic is the same as it always was at peak times. the main difference since you were here last is that due to the fking tram, there are only 2 points along beach road where you can do a u-turn - 1st and last sets of lights coming from grosvenor side.

Thanks Rich AR that big building in the centre is the back of Oasis Beach, it looks like the work on the beach is still ongoing I was rather hoping it would be finished after 2 years +. Good to hear that they haven't seemingly made an attempt to improve the traffic flow around there I spent many a happy evening trying to get home and sitting in interminable hold ups. Maybe I will stick to taxis. Here's pic I've just taken from my balcony. I assume Oasis Beach is on the right of the image? Still lots of construction going on over there...

Physically yes mentally I still bear scars. And I'm still annoyed about losing those shades
Glad to see you still active out there I still pop into the forum even f I don't post too often...
I was rather hoping that the various construction works would have moved on a bit since I left but I had such a good deal on the apartment and I have used it a few times so very familiar to me. And I want somewhere I can walk to the beach and veg out don't mind using beach front hotel facilities if the fancy takes me.
You still living in JBR? Drop a line here if you will be around that week catch up over a quick drink? Girders?
Looking forward to being there again hopefully tapping up a contact or two see what opportunities may arise
