Hey folks,

I've a 997 turbo that has just gone out of warranty and in the last 6 months has had around 90k worth of warranty work done on it making the mechanical side of the car pretty good. It leaves the problem of a 9yr old interior showing its age with scratches in the plastics and sills and scuffed leather.

Now what I would really like is an interior, black with red stitching (I know good luck with that) from a written off car but I've never seen such a thing like a specialist breakers yard here in dxb so what options do I have left? Getting interior parts wrapped but being Dubai this will be expensive or shipping new parts from Europe.

Any suggestions from those that have restored over here where I can look?

Cheers

Cant help with your question but did you really spend £90k repairing a 997 turbo??? Assume and hoping not as you are in Dubai...

You may be better off researching upholsterers for the interior. Finding a good quality interior for the full interior in a breakers seems very unlikely.

90k AED is a more reasonable 17k in GBP. Still a lot of money! What did the warranty work involve OP? Just of out interest.

Can't help with your query either I'm afraid!

Hello,

Nope I never spent a penny actually but the work done in last 6 months:

Rear spoiler accuator replacement
Bonnet support struts
AC insulation replacement (required dash removal)
Suspension mounts and bushes
Front differential replacement
Alignment x2

And a major service, which I paid for, all the rest done free of charge. Biggest job was the differential, part alone was 9000USD and all at al nabudah labour rates.

So it brings me to the choice of sticking with it and making it back to new as only done 65k, brakes done 12k ago and tires 3yrs left.

The bottom has fallen out the 997 market and the car is worth relatively little.

Your lucky day.

A mate of mine has just got his 996 turbo back from Color Glo in Al Quoz. He had the dash re-leathered, seats re-dyed, plastics/trim painted, patched of leather replaced and a load of other interior bits done. Interior looks like new. They are a US franchise and competitive on price. He thinks Ferrari get lots of work done there. He said they do a complete package for refreshing the interior but also do specific work. They say there is nothing they can't fix.Think he paid 8000aed but for the amount of work and the results it was a bargain. I'm going to get mine done there before I ship it home.

Sure he'd be up for you taking a look at it if you'd like. Let me know.

90k in warranty work is mad. I'd keep it! 9000USD for a front diff is crazy and lots running a tune or boost in the US ditch the front diff to save weight and drivetrain losses. If the warranty is paying though you migh as well.

996 turbo's were a bargain here a year ago (especially manuals) but most seem to have been bought up to hold onto or shipped elsewhere. Mine is worth sod all here but values are strong in UK and Europe. 997 turbo could be worth holding on to. Great car for out here. Ballistic in a straight line for the straight roads with great handling and grip up in the mountains. Only criticism is maybe too much grip so is love to add an 86 for fun. Fully comp ins should be available very soon (eventually) according to Clements and another source out here.

For around 18k aed you can have the whole interior done to factory standards with correct perforated leather, correct airbag stitching , even the airbag sign stamped in the leather.

The work is amazing and the shop is doing my Ferrari 550 at the moment.

Sorry. To clarify..I am not refering to colorglo.

I have found colorglo to be great for plastic bits but not so good at fixing leather.

I am using a leather trimmer in dubai to replace the leather in my car. The work that I have seem them deliver is stunning.

The just did some bmw z1 seats for me and are niw doing my Ferrari 550.
