My son goes for his first interview tuesday..
My son will, if he gets the job, be moving out on his own, no partner, wife.probably Dubai.
He knows some people already working out there,he went for two weeks as a holiday, just before christmas, I'm posting as a dad of one,who wants to know the nitty gritty part of living there rather than the 24 year old's version of a two week holiday, doing brunch, going to golf tournaments, getting happy, but not working.
My main concern is health..what happens god forbid if he was taken ill, accident or something like this, what are the hospitals health care like,we are not just around the corner to visit, or help, how is the health care in Dubai compared to the UK, for someone on their own.
Do you rent or buy accomodation there, how do you go around doing it.
I know I sound a bit clingy, but my son is giving me the its all good dad, don't worry..
I'm not trying to stop him going, I just want him to look at the full picture and facts, and also for my peace of mind.
Can you please give me your thoughts, and experiences, thank you

The health care and hospitals are excellent, but obviously he needs to ensure he has health care insurance, as they can be expensive. But the car is very good and plentiful.

It is a very "western" country in many ways, so you have no need to worry at all.

In certain circumstances, particularly at a diagnosis stage, the healthcare can be better than the uk. Because everything is private the hospitals are more likely to spend big on scans and tests compared to the NHS trying to save costs (and useless GPs). I know this because it happened to me and I was told that had I been in the uk at the time of diagnosis it probably wouldn't have been picked up in time.

You can also go straight to a specialist without having to go through the rigmarole of seeing a GP and waiting for a referral. It's all instant. The onus will be on him though to actually go to the docs in the first place as many typical blokes just assume they're fine.

Accommodation is all rented. Best bet is jump on Dubizzle and find a flat share initially but most companies will provide the first month or so to get settled in.

I moved out here totally on my own 2.5 years ago, his company *should* provide health insurance, some companies will also give an advance in salary to pay your rent.

I rented a room for 4 months, saved a bit then moved into my own apartment. I met most of my friends going to "meetups"
http://www.meetup.com/ I'd imagine young guys find friends easier and if he already knows some people it will be fine.

He'll be fine, it's a pretty safe city, easy to get around.
