Got a flat yesterday and needed a new tire. Wanting the fronts to be the same, I looked at two but then the flatbed showed that the rears needed to be done too!

At very short notice they chased down some Michelins; the price seemed very fair and car is tracking nice and straight. There was a rather nice McLaren 675LT in next to my car having a wheel alignment and a great chat with the owner so a good way to pass the time.

Aside from leaving the grease all over the tires and alloys (I thought it would have been wiped off!) the overall experience was very good and would definitely use them again.

Yeah I've used these guys before for a couple of tires on the cayman. Straight in and straight out, very good service all round.. In hindsight I wanted to stay longer and read more of their Evo mags and sup their coffee!

Jon Simmonds (the owner) knows his onions. He has a "very tasty" and I mean "very tasty" BMW E30 that lacks nothing, oh and a couple of Porsches that are rather rapid.

There was a green 911 with yellow wheels parked up (literally up) in the racking - looked immaculate and very nice.

I presume one of his toys? The colours match the business.

I was telling someone else in the office and they will be taking their car down to MSW too.

I've contacted MSW over the last 24 hours for tyre prices. They've given me two different prices both times (160 dhs difference). Feels like they're just pulling numbers out of the air. Doesn't exactly give me the confidence that I'm not being ripped off...

Interesting...

I told the flatbed guy to reverse out of a place on Umm Suqqueim (I jumped out to bravely stop traffic!) where it did feel like that! 5000AED for some brands I had never heard of!

Decided life was too short and went straight to MSW as been on the phone to them.

3980AED for all four tires (Michelin something or other) - the rears are wider than the back.

They may well have been cheaper elsewhere but the prices were about what had been quoted when I last looked at MOT time and then last Oct when I had ripped hole in the same tire at a petrol station.

the sales guys do indeed pluck numbers - from a catalogue.

never bought tyres from them but wouldn't go anywhere else for geo/alignment work.

Fair enough if they are following a catalogue an all but 160 dhs per tyre is excessive, especially when the original price was 1500 (same tyre is only about £170 back home - I know, shouldn't compare...).

Unfortunately its a common theme here. Whoever you ring up, wherever it may be, its always a lottery with the answers you'll get.

Slightly OT, I'd seen a specific toy I wanted to get from Hamley's for my son but the ones on display were tatty. I was reliably told that "sir, we will have some new ones in stock tomorrow". Not fully trusting this myself and before trekking to Mirdif CC the next day, I call them up. "Yes sir, we've had a delivery. Please come over". 1hr later I turn up at the shop, ask for the item I wanted. "Sorry sir we only have these on the shelfs" I give in sometimes!
Another thing that really annoys me is the ninja style sales assistance that appears from nowhere and follows you as close as possible. Then that one time when you actually need their help, you end up knowing more about the product then they do anyway!

Back to MSW though, i've used them twice and not had a problem. 2 different prices though is a bit of a joke!

I know a place in Ras al Khaimah called VIP Tyres. Worth a look!

(Private joke with Rich and Matt - no need to actually go there!)
