I've talked to about 10 people, literally all of them have said I shouldn't even touch american cars.

Are they really that bad?
Did they give a reason?

I've run a 2006 Mustang GT for the last 7 years and it's cost me nothing other than tyres, batteries and a suspension refresh.

Big, unstressed engines, Good ac, Yes the interior isn't up to par with the European equivalent but it's got so much more 'character'

I wouldn't buy the v6 of a muscle car though, doesn't seem right

I saw an ad on the Geant noticeboard at Arabian Ranches for a Dodge R/T (the four door) for 75K AED (there may be room for that - who knows). I can grab the details if you want.

They all mention that it is more expensive to run, ie maintenance, and it is harder to come by parts for repair and they are not reliable according to them etc. Also the biggest one being resale value.

I definitely agree with you on the character part!!

My budget is about 60K, I think it's very hard for me to go more than that at the moment :s

At 60k I wouldn't really worry about re-sale value, most the depreciation is already done.

Yes a Jap car might retain another 5k or so over a couple of years but its hardly enough to lose sleep over.

Expensive to run? Utter rubbish, I'd rather the repair bills for a yank motor than something European

I noticed that but equally I have seen so many cars drop and drop and drop. I have also seen cars go in with a silly-high price and then you see the add drop 10K

Thought I would flag just in case one of those (mine was - got it for a lot less than asking)

Will there be any decent deals to be had around EID?

@OP - There are some decent finance deals on motors here (if that's an option for you).

who is/are "they"? i'm guessing colleagues who know the root sum of fk all about cars, have never set foot in al awir and never driven anything more adventurous than an automatic pajero [non v6].

yet all American cars are rubbish [they don't have hot weather in the US y'see, especially not in Arizona or Nevada] and all cars at al awir/sharjah are cut & shut crashed repairable [even the new ones]

basically buy anything other than a jap suv and you will crash into a ditch and die. at the autopsy they'll find your car gave you syphilis.
