So had the 2014 ford exploder in at the dealers for a service, I was/still am out of town with work so the missus took it in.
Wow they seen her coming with the old the engine needed flushed although it's been serviced every 4 months since new but anyway, they told her to stop putting special in the car as it is contaminated and will result in the cats needing replaced as well as another engine flush I guess army expense so we must now put super in it.

Now I thought special was min 90 Ron so I'm really not sure where this is coming from or are ford putting sugar in my fuel or just think my wife looks gullible?

My other half had a fuel issue with Mercedes recently (is the recent thread somewhere on the forum) and another member posted up regarding the Porsche owners out here who did tests on fuel.

Since reading that I have done some further reading and digging and it does appear that fuel is an issue out here, the engines designed to run on highly refined very high quality fuel are starting to face issues here.

The research ive done doesnt give a distinct difference between Special and Super, but it does make a difference from which fuel station (as in brand) it is purchased from.

The more complex the cars are regarding emissions as in regeneration in the cats the worse it amplifies the fuel quality issue, unless the fuel is improved or you buy an old tech car the problem looks only likely to get worse with time.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like my fuel bill went up by over a third having to now switch to super. will keep my eye on this but if anyone gets a distinction to the fuel supplier it would be handy.

The results showed Emarat and Adnoc had the higher qualities whilst the other two were of a much lower standard.

Depending on car I now run one on Emarat special to offset some of the cost of using super previously. The other car only gets ran on Super but don't drive it much. Penny pinching I know but quite annoying the fuel going up when doing about 30k a year!

Makes sense as ADNOC now owns Emarat, so it's likely the fuel is all coming from the same source. Expect Emarat stations to be rebranded to ADNOCs soon enough.

They already did that in Sharjah.

At least the fuel prices are dropping slightly.

Someone told me yesterday Adnoc has plans to open a huge amount of new fuel stations in the UAE, cant come soon enough.

Its a nightmare trying to get fuel at the minute.
