Hi all, I find myself visiting Dubai quite a lot at the moment, the Mrs' sister moved out there with her husband last year. We've been enough times now where we've done all the touristy stuff and explored all the malls, so looking for other things to do. So I was wandering if there was any meets or events where we can go to see all these supercars close up.

Whilst on the subject any advice on other cool things to do whilst we're over there would be appreciated. I wanted to go see the camel racing but I cant make sense of their website and I think its only on in winter.. We're next going for the second week of june

Its hot at the moment, things do not really take of again till october.

Supercars are not really car culture here they are just bling, but if you want to see some there are plenty of show rooms to wander around or an Thursday even stroll down JBR

Anyone ever been to the Rainbow Sheikh museum? Been on my list of things to do - perhaps we could arrange a group run down when you are over?

camel racing is a bit weird imo. i'd be all for it if they still had kids as jockeys but a robot giving the camel an electric shock is about as exciting as watching paint dry. if there's no prospect of someone falling off a horse or camel during a race, i ain't interested.

car meets do happen on occasion. the one at the biker cafe in al quoz seems well attended with good variety of metal. for supercar bling you could always go out with eccentric and hold his box of tissues.

I have been to the car museum. Its quite a long drive from Dubai, its quite a long way from Abu Dhabi actually. Its got about 200 cars, but they are an unusual collection, featuring many 4x4s, a lot of classic American stuff, and pretty much no sports car or super cars.

If you plan a drive out, maybe worth while, otherwise, I'm not sure it would be top of my list. We went there on the way to Liwa or Sila (or somewhere). I wouldn't make a trip esp. for it.

I tried to go there in March 2011, but they were closed. I drove all the way to see the museum (around 2.5 hr drive, got a bit lost too), took a few pictures of some of the stuff outside, and got a speeding ticket on my way back smile

I'm not sure if they're still closed or not, but you can try going if you are really that curious. There are many interesting cars there, but hardly any exotics. Also, as h__ said, it's a bit away from AD, and is a bit hard to find. I've been planning to go again, but I've been busy and now is not the right time to go imo..

Oh and here are my pics.

PS: There is another car museum in/near AD that is supercar nirvana, but it's invite only frown

There seem to be lots of car meets listed on this site. Could be of use.

I had no idea all of these events had happened. Will be keeping an eye on this for next year.

Would be great to organise the odd PH car meet when it cools off in Oct/Nov. Maybe even some group drives to Jebal Jais, Kalba pass, Jebel Hafeet etc!
