Renewing Driving License - what docs are required

Renewing your licence is simple and can be done at any RTA Traffic Office branch or mall outlet within less than 30 minutes. You can also renew your driving license online by doing an eye-test and posting the results online through the RTA website. From August 2010, you can renew your driving license from any other emirate. See media report. From June 2011, you can now renew your driving license from the top four trusted opticians and their branches. These include Yateem, Barakat, Al Magrhabi & Grand Opticians. See media report.
Documents required
- An eye test certificate from a recognized optician or ophthalmologist.
- A copy of your valid passport with residence visa stamp.
- The expired license
- Two photos.
Conditions:
- The applicant should come in person to where a driving licence can be renewed, or use the online service. You will need to register as a new user on the RTA website to get a personalized dashboard from where you can manage your online services including renewing your license.
There are five steps to be taken to process the renewal of driving license online, namely:
Taking an eyesight test with any of RTA-approved eye-sight testing partner, providing a passport copy together with a personal photograph to the eyesight testing center, inserting the existing personal file through RTA portal (www.rta.ae) or creating a new one, paying renewal fees and fines (if any) online by using a credit card or e-dirham, and receiving the renewed driving license at the place designated by the client within four working days from receiving the RTA confirmation message.
Fees for renewal of licence:
AED110.
Where to obtain the service from:
- The main building of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, Customer Service Section.
- Traffic office at City Centre.
- Traffic office at Al Ittihad Cooperative Society, Al Twar branch and Al Safa branch.
- Traffic office at Jumeira Plaza Centre.
- Traffic office at Eppco Petrol Station, Al Qusais.
- RTA counters at some Dubai malls.
- Yateem, Barakat, Al Maghrabi & Grand Opticians

Steve, if you back by this Friday get your @rse down to the autodrome and say hello.
I pop over quite often to see if there is anything on and spend some 'boy time' with my son.Is there an event on this Friday? Would be good to say hello since, after nearly a year here, still not actually managed to meet anyone in person!
