Need to own one before we really start to concentrate on the get-out strategy.

Around a AED 200k budget should get me in a 997.1

Keep an eyes out guys - Looking to buy in a couple of months.

They are cheap out here. Buy one and take it home. Might even make a few quid

Need in a haystack for one that isn't a nail I'd imagine?

Would Porsche club be best place to start?

Whatshischops with the red one may know ones on the market as well.

ETA - would you ditch the Cayman if you got one? I'm possibly in the market for a change if a new job I'm 90% there with comes through.

Although I can't stop looking at CTS-V's on dubiz..

No VAT or duty to pay if you've owned it 6 months , I think.

Ben at AAA Rashidiya knew of a few GT3's for sale last time I spoke to him.

Looks like this itch won't be scratched for a while.

One of the provisos was moving later this year to somewhere with proper covered parking - that's not going to happen now and I'm not going to risk a GT3 in the open parking behind my building.

Pooh.

I'll either stick with the CS or get a stbox for a while.

mate, get a Gt3. I bought one last year and absolutely love it. Plus, the last manuals are a deal now. They will only increase from here I believe. Get the paint done, liquid glass protection etc and get a cover. Job done. I Park mine outside and cover it. They can handle the heat as long as you look after it. Do it. Man up. LOL.

Great plan - but you are looking at 250+ k AED for a decent 997.1 GT3. Then again, as a 997.1 Clubsport owner I have to talk prices up...not looking to sell mine though!

Seems to be a few early 991s now for around 400k. Even with sterling's recent problems that compares very well to the £120k or so being asked for the cheapest ones back home.

The plummet of the pound has pretty much killed the cheap Porsche gravy train. Trust me I know ...

I bought my GT3 for AED 500,000 when it was AED 5.5 to the pound ... so it was GBP 91k ...cheap by UK comparisons. Now it would be more like GBP 120k ... not cheap.

Furthermore, earlier in the year I also bought a blue Cayman GT4 (see below) for the sole purpose of exporting it back to the UK to sell. It cost me AED 340,000 and I sold it to a businessman in Italy for GBP85k. Even with shipping, import tax and conversion costs there was still a tidy profit. BUT ... I did this when it was AED 5.5 to the pound meaning the GT4 was GBP 61,800 so I had a decent margin to work with. If you take the current exchange rate of AED 4.2 to the pound the GT4 would have cost me the equivalent of GBP 81,000 resulting in a loss.

Also unless you're going to sell it in Europe (like I did) you'll end up with a left hooker in England ... not good.

That's very interesting - thanks for sharing. Maybe not then...

Although I don't mind LHD too much - I had an older 911 which was a California import and it was less of an issue than I expected.
