Evening all,

Sorry for being a massive lurker! I'm over in the UAE nowadays and have been for around 18 months. Always keep and eye on the forum and I'm up for a beer if they start again anytime soon!

Does anyone know how you go about importing a right hand drive car into the UAE? The car in question is a 1997 rx7 in totally original condition. I know it can be done as I saw a (proper) mini in RHD a couple of weeks ago although it was driven by a local. So yeh, that!!

Any advice much appreciated. Hope to meet a few of you some time.

The only way I know it can be done is through Sharjah or RAK and registered as a classic (which puts limits on the amount you can use it)
I also know of one rally car here that's RHD and road registered but I'm not sure how that was done.

Has to be pre 78 and unmodified for a classic car plates, the exception seems to be hot rods.

Rally cars are only licensed for the road section of a rally, not allowed to use them to and from an event any more

Dubai and AD will not accept RHD to LHD conversions

The only modern RHD I have seen are skylines owned by locals on RAK plates.

Thank you both. RAK could be an option as that's where I live. It makes sense that, if it can be done, it can be done in RAK as they're a laid back bunch up there! Sadly the car doesn't fall under that categorisation as a classic nor is it a rally car. I'll get in touch with the RTA in RAK.

Thank you again.
