Travelling while residence visa is in process
Discussion
Just had the medical bit for new visa - that's going too take a good few days before I then get the actual visa in passport.
I travel to Europe on the 10th for a week.
Given the festive period and other holiday next week. It's not going to be completed before I'm travelling - we only have around 5 working days.
Anyone know if there are any issues with travelling while the visa is under process?

I was told by our HR department that it's not possible to travel whilst a visa application is in process as if the visa department check your status on their systems and it shows you as "out of the country" they will automatically cancel the visa application....... that said, our HR department are wrong more often than they are right so I wouldn't bet anything I value on that being the correct situation.I travel to Europe on the 10th for a week.

I'm going to have to see if there is any way to fast track by the end of next week then.

I have checked again with her and she's now saying that you're fine to travel until such time as your passport actually goes in to the ministry (well obviously, I wonder if she's tried flying without a passport recently!)
In all honesty I'd not trust anything I've typed here, get yourself to the relevent government office and get it from the horse's mouth.

Yeah - even that is a bit of a joke, as we all know. Speak with three people at the visa place and they all say something different.
Normally I wouldn't be fussed as things can be rearranged but this is a booked skiing trip and I have no leeway. Not the cheapest of holidays and it's all paid for.

One of our new starters arrived in the country the 'proper' way - i.e. visa paperwork applied for whilst he was in the US, so not coming as a 'tourist' first.
For one reason or another, we needed him to hold onto his passport whilst we did a job for a client and then he had some downtime afterwards and wanted to make a quick trip to Thailand... Books everything online, checks in at the airport, all good until he got to immigration where he was refused permission to leave the country whilst the visa was still pending the final steps.
So, unless you can get a rush job on, isn't likely to happen

this will ruin a very expensive holiday. For one reason or another, we needed him to hold onto his passport whilst we did a job for a client and then he had some downtime afterwards and wanted to make a quick trip to Thailand... Going to need to beg when I get the med report back.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - but I was give same advice with my visa. I had to be back in UK for a mates wedding, and so I actually delayed my arrival here back in August as there was no guarantee that it would be sorted before I needed to be back. I was told from the minute the application went in - effectively I was in no-mans land. Neither a tourist or a resident - hence could not drive, could not leave country etc.
Good news is for me from medical to receiving residence visa, I had medical on a Thursday and passport back in my hand on the Sunday with Residents visa. Wife had similar - medical on a Monday, and Visa by Wednesday. This was DIFC though.
The bit that took the time was the Emirates id - which was another week to 10 days, but I don't think you will need this to travel. Remember if you have EGate that this is linked to your visa, so it will not work if you try and use it (at least that is what I read when I applied for me EGate).

We may be in with a chance.
Having followed up with the courier, it wasn't even on their system.
Went to the med centre, not with them, it had just gone to the courier agent and a pick up was due in half an hour - had I not got it then, I wouldn't have got it until med next week!
Now going to go to DMCC place first thing on Sunday with my MD to get it sorted, hopefully in time.
HNY all.

if your old visa is being transferred between employers [apparently fairly normal practice] then its correct that you couldn't leave. if its a new visa being applied for then it should;t matter at all.
note this is just pub talk amongst some dubai long termers. guess it depends how good your PRO is, ours can do the meds and get your visa & passport back in 24hrs.
