I was talking about security in the UAE with my dad who was visiting the other week, and how it seemed remarkable that something like this hasn't happened before. Does anyone on here give their personal safety (or that of your family's) a second thought, or has it never entered your head?
I have recently thought about the wife's safety....working in an isolated area, miles from anywhere, and meeting many random strangers most days.....that sounds a bit wrong! She runs an Equestrian centre in the outback and teaches randoms most days. Then again, she's probably more at risk driving there.

I just saw this on BBC website. Seems very odd - I think it will transpire they knew each other.

http://www.thenational.ae/uae/crime/reem-island-mu...

no-one is mentioning this but it is a terrorist attack, victim(s) unknown to the attacker and chosen based on nationality, Emerati woman in custody with full blown swat team take down. She tried to bomb a doctor as well, obviously utterly incompetent but not not incapable as the poor american woman found out.

I guess we knew it could happen and that there would be people who would answer the isil call for wider attacks in the UAE and rest of the gulf. Time to start taking some basic precautions I think, it costs nothing to look under your car every morning...

While it is as ad hoc as this and the Saudi shooting this week though it is very difficult for the police to do any preemptive action.

As an aside the utterly hilarious and inappropriate music on the security service video is totally bizarre

The bit that worries me slightly is that the bib suggest she is not alone.

I think the UAE police stomped on it from a great height. (I sometimes think the police out here have the right attitude on the big stuff.)

The most dangerous thing you do out here is drive to work by a long way, don't sweat the rest.

Ps Lisa I guess?
Al Sara is the best stable out here (the staff love the horses which is not a common as it should be). I torture a horse there every Saturday.
