Just in case any of the PH'ers on here are in that field.

I want to get a bike for my little boy for Christmas (a red one is his preference - 3 1/2 yrs old)

I saw one at the bike place outside the autodrome but was not familiar with the brand. Seemed solid and well built though however reflectors etc were additional. Seemed pricey (900AED from memory) I then debated buying one for myself too so could go cycling with my kids. They had a run out model for 2100 AED - seemed good value when the tiny little bike was about 40% of the cost!)

Before committing, any recommendations on brands to look for/avoid?

If there is anyone on here in the bike trade, I would of course prefer to give you the business if I can.

Cheers

i dont think anyone here is in retail.

if you just want cheap and cheerful, head to decathlon at mirdif mall. a few of us have their starter roadbike [2400 new] which is basic but well screwed together. you don't need anything light/fancy for dubai as there's no hills to climb! dubizzle is also a good resource for cheap 2nd hand bikes, cycling has really taken off since al qudra opened.

if that 2100 was for an adult roadbike from the cycle hub then post the details, they didnt have anything under 5000 when i was in there last so that sounds a bargain.

Try Adventure HQ located in Times Square Mall - ground floor.

They have a good selection of bikes (including BMC) and the staff are switched on. Rentals available too.

Hi

Sorry for the delayed response. Popped up there this evening and ordered 2 bikes for the kids from Santa and one to myself from XB70 - what a nice guy he is!

The one that I saw (was actually 2500) was gone which was in black (the last one they had) but they have I think 5 left in either red or white. I think it is called a Rockhopper? The price was 2500 so based on your comment about never being cheap, I bought one.

I know nothing about bikes, I have no idea when I last rode a bike (apart from around 6pm this evening for about 3 meters in their upstairs section!)and really have no idea what I am doing but I thought true spirit of PH'ness.

I also don't know how I will get them back here as they won't fit in car and it does not have a towbar to mount a stand. I also have nowhere to put them either.

I may not have thought this through! May just chain it to the car in the carport - unlikely that anyone will go near that since it is now filthy since washing cars has been banned at Chez Ranches. And there is me with a karcher power hose and foaming gun too!
