East Coast Weekend Getaways
Discussion
I think we've done all of the East Coast main hotels now - just back from the Rotana.
What's your faves? We love Zighy Bay but that's a touch pricey to do often. The service at the Rotana was excellent but the food was awful.
Al Aqah is alright but strangely very boring.
The Mirimar was bland too, I can barely remember it.
Sandy Beach can be a hoot if you're with the right crowd but the wife hates the place as it's very scruffy and outright dirty in some places - the snorkeling saves it.
JAL, or what ever it's called now, is simply horrible.
Fujeirah Hilton is ok but the setting is pants.
Any I'm missing?
Maybe they'd be more fun if I was Russian...

We only ever do the Rotana Fujeirah but they've got a bit greedy on the price of late so this weekend we decided to try one of the new places in Abu Dhabi..
The Westin Golf Resort and Spa
All I can say is that in all the hotels I've stayed in all over the world this one ranks pretty close to the bottom. For a supposed 5* hotel I wouldn't give it 2*
Not recommended, if it's the only option I'd stay home instead.

A shed load of culture Phil, I've travelled over all the Emirates (even Umm al Quwain has a museum) and always really enjoyed it.
Pick the right hotel and there'll be a great pool, nice bar, usually decent food and (if nothing else) a change of scenery and slower pace of life than Dubai (though I've stayed in a few hotels here at weekends as well!)

come on, be serious now. I'm not much on boozy brunches and lazing by the pool you see, I like to get out exploring and seeing things that most people don't bother with.

I really am.... you have to look for it a little harder than in many places but there's a fair amount of history in this corner of the world and I've enjoyed finding it over the last few years.
Where are you comparing this with, the moon?Get into one of the Yas hotels and a trackday for about 700.
