Does anyone have any ideas on what premium should be put onto a TVR here in UAE? , looking at trying to get one but not sure how much more they are in this part of the world.

appreciate they are few and far between, do you think circa 100k AED would be to much or not enough for a Chimaera 500 on a 97 plate obviously LHD.

cheers

Hello Matt,
I know squat but was under the impression tat TVR's were no good in this environment.

Whilst we are here, I don't suppose you are related to Michael Tomlinson, ex CEO of NBAD?!

That is going to be pretty impossible in Dubai

First check with the rta to see if the exist on the data base

If not you need to prove they made them in the factory in LHD to type approval, get the RTA to add them to the system then find a factory built LHD TVR.

Other Emirates are more flexible and of course it depends on you connections but in principal Dubai does not register cars that are modified from RHD to LHD hence my lack of r32 skyline

yeah appreciate that, I have found a car already its been registered here for nearly 10 years.

genuine black pool car built for the Dubai motor show - just I cant seem to justify 100k for a 1997 Chimaera when you could get a similar car back home for a lot less money.

just how much of a following is there out here do you think? , I know they are rare cars apparently in Europe those cars sell for well over 30k Euros

is it the purple one or the blue one?

i would have one but i am not a practical or sensible person. the asking price is extremely dependent on condition. as you say a mint car in europe will easy make 30k but that normally means that the dubai market prices it as high, totally ignoring the fact it may need a lot of work doing and the market for such a car is probably limited to us lot on here.

sam, claire and simon on here have tvrs in the uk, plus sam has recently refurbed/modded his chassis [t350]. i imagine rust won't an issue out here but you will likely need to price in some refreshment work. chassis welding/blasting/respraying costs next to fk all. for bodywork there is a european car enthusiast at jadaf who makes high end GRP and carbon boats who could assist. engine wise i would think it;d be fairly straight forward. AAA are good with rover v8's

also i'm sure if a dubai pher had a tvr we would all be willing to ferry parts back from uk jollies and help out with the spanners if and when required.

so yeah, buy it or gtfo. biggrin

There are a few LHD TVRs here in the UAE, Gaffer (Claire) was involved in the mini restoration of one while she was at Saluki Motorsport.

As I understand most of the LHD TVRs were made in Malaysia, I'm not sure if there were upgrades made to allow them to cope in hotter environments. But as standard I would imagine the AC to be useless out here they only just manage on a English Summers day.

Getting the engine serviced should be easy enough, plenty of old range rovers running about with the RV8, hence the car that was at saluki. It would be getting the TVR niggles sorted that would be hard tricky, unless your handy with a spanner and multimeter??

I would love to have my TVR out here, but cant get around the fact that its RHD. A LHD Chimaera isn't going to do it for me personally, there are better alternatives (cheaper, less hassle) for a fun weekend and track day car.

PS, Glad to see another Raptor owner on PH, there are three of us now - we should arrange a PH Raptor meet.

Exactly why that 250k AED Lotus Esprit V8 that has been on Dubizzle for years has not made it to my driveway. 250k? For an Esprit? OK, it has pretty-much zero miles on it, but that only means every piece of plastic or rubber on the car needs to be replaced smile

its a blue one, its a nice car but interior is shot and needs replacing / new upholstery.

I have had a Tuscan in UK and to be honest I think I would prefer a vette for the same money , I don't think people genuinely get excited about a Chimaera - if its a Griffith then its a different matter.

plus when you see this on dubizzle for nearly 4000 GBP cheaper I think its a far superior car, I actually sold one to buy my TVR a few years back and within 100 miles I knew I made a mistake.

Love the raptor, its massively different to the JEEP SRT, not as good in many ways but far superior in others - I have kept my wrangler also which is a supercharged 3.8 which is brilliant fun and I don't think I can ever loose that just need to hunt out a weekend toy!
