Are crap. I had new pads and skimmed discs about month ago. Today I was showing the boy my driving skills as I had someone waiting at home for me. By the time I got home, I had hardly any brakes at all.
I noticed that when I picked the car up a month or so ago, that they weren't that sharp, but thought it was downto the new pads. They haven't got much better and today was appalling.

So, cheap pads perhaps? A bad job by the garage? Or isit normal for brakes to just stop working when they get quite hot? I mean, I wasn't on the track just going a little quick and braking hard.

Cheers.

How old is the car? brake fade is usual when they system is really hot.

Maybe try and upgrade brake fluid first?

Try bleeding / flushing them first.

Thanks gents, new fluid it is then.
(And to sort out the idling which an apparent Jag Specialist) failed to do.

If your pedal went all mushy and the travel increased then it could be the fliud, they should have tested this though

I would make sure that you have not glazed the pads, when you had them done did you bed everything in ? IE get a few heat cycles through the pads

I have always been dubious of skimming discs, especially here. They will happily exceed the max you can take off a disc. The thinner the disc gets the more heat is passed through the pads into the caliper and ultimtely into the fliud

And dont forget even on a spirited drive the ABS,TC and all the other modern gadgets on a car are using the brakes without you using the pedal

Only my opinion but never try and save cash on tyres and brakes. If someone is telling you the discs need to be skimmed there is a reason for this

Not sure what Jag you have but if you paid anything less than about Aed600 for a set of pads then you could well have have some sub standard parts

Thanks for that. I've never understood the need to skim the discs like everyone seems to want to do here. Both cars have had this done recently. I paid AED 2,300 for the pads and discs on all corners, and 600 for the throttle bodies to be cleaned to cure the Iratic idling.....neither have been done correctly and need more attention.

I'm f***ing sick of so called experts talking st 100% of the time. The car s a 2010 XF SV8. Does anyone know of a trustworthy garage who are not full of st? Don't care of the charges, just want a car that I am happy to drive, as right now I'd prefer to drive the wife's Expedition.

I would try Saluki or DAS.
