Holiday car hire in Dubai - The Walk area
Discussion
First post in an overseas forum so play nice please
I am in Dubai first 10 days of November and would like to hire a car for 3 or 4 days to do some shopping, exploring, go to Abu Dhabi etc. etc. Rather than trawl through Google and the list of hire places it returns is there anywhere local to The Walk area (Hilton Hotel) that is worth a look.
I'm happy with anything half decent to be honest but if there is a place that has good prices on something nicer in the "PH" scale of things I'd be happy to consider. Main criteria is good to deal with, no hidden charges, no scare stories etc.
Cheers all

First post anywhere, so got you beat there Sir.
As you may know, the Walk is a better place to be a pedestrian or car spotter than a driver, but assuming you dont plan to spend your time stuck in traffic and will actually leave the Marina area (which is traffic hell right now..) you could try these guys, its even walking distance from JBR walk (over the metro bridge to JLT), and they have a good selection.

i love st attempts at social media marketing. well done ezah.
there's an avis on the service road from the hilton towards the marina and national are in the movepic. most of the majors are on jbr. more expensive than at the airport as all branches outside the airport are franchised concessions. national/dollar are cheapest, most exiting thing you'll get is a 3.0l lexus or a premium 4x4. i'd leave the no-name companies alone.
you can hire anything from a muscle car to an aventador but prices and insurance excesses are in line with that. the only driving roads are in the mountains a couple of hrs from the city anyway.
dubai is not the best place for a day or so's casual driving. you know the way london cabbies drive? well imagine 1000s of them at 60mph on an 8 lane highway. we call that sheikh zayed road. junctions can be confusing, especially as the signpost are after the turnoff and there's no logic or pattern to the road layouts. even after 3.5yrs i still mess up my turn off at times.
taxis are cheap and plentiful, takes a minute or two to hail one from the walk. dubai mall [20km or so] is about 8quid, airport about 15 with tip, abu dhabi [an hour+ drive] about 25-30. you can hire a cab for half a day for 50notes, and there's the careem app [www.careem.com] if you want something a little nicer to take you to dinner.
tl:dr - use taxis, put the money saved towards a track experience at the autodrome or yas marina.

FYI I have nothing to do with HDS, I just live in the next tower and have had friends who rented from them.
Only recently did I discover there was a ME section in PH so I browse it now and then but this was my first post as I thought I could add something useful.
Excuse me if I posted out of turn or was not supposed to link to such firms. I am happy to delete the link.
Normally I am on Evolve.ae as AndyH.

apologies andy and welcome. tone of your post just sounded odd to me.
there's a few evolvers here including myself. tone on PH is a world away from the more sanitised ME forums, so 'scuse me if i jumped in both feet first.
to the OP - radicals is widely regarded as the pick of the yas experiences.

I have found Diamondlease to be ok.
Not the best motors around but will serve the purpose fine.
You can collect and drop off from the Habtoor Grand hotel which is just off from The Walk.

shirt - no worries, spam and ad posting annoys me no end too. I should have introduced myself first.
If OP only wants a cheap runabout there are usually some cheap deals on cobone.com. I got a Hyundai for 500dhs a week from there recently when I was between cars. They dropped it off and picked it up too (50 dh extra)

I currently have a car leased from these:-

No affiliation, but the owner is a mate of a mate. I used them in May when I came to visit, and had no issues, so have used them again this time around. I have a Chevrolet Malibu thing for 3000dhs for the month including all CDW.
Certainly not the best car in the world, but is clean, and relatively cheap.

A Uni friend's fiancé has started a prestige car hire place out there with Lambos, Ferraris, Rolls Royces etc. (you get the idea) but also has Audis, BMW's etc. worth a try. http://www.jamalprestige.com/
