Hi all

My wife is pregnant - due December - and she's currently in the UK sorting out stuff before she comes out to Dubai. One worry bead is the pregnancy related care here and what clinics/hospitals are best for the actual birth.

I could do with an idea of what hospitals are any good for antenatal and childbirth - anyone been through this out here? These two come recommended and are on my AXA approved list:

Medcare Hospital - Jumeira
Mediclinic City Hospital - Dubai Health Care City

Any advice appreciated.

Congratulations!

My First was born in Welcare Garhoud, second one in City Hospital. Both very good.

Had a horrific experience with Medcare Jumeira, (not child related) I wouldn't go there personally.

Cheers! It's the second, the first being born in KSA - so I'm anticipating better levels of care but similar levels of admin and hassle!

You're the second to recommend City so it feels like front runner. Was there a particular consultant that you thought was good?

Thanks!

+1 for City. My wife and her sister both had their babies there in the last few months, one natural birth, one caesarian, great service and a nice team.

They both switched consultants to Dr Raj, she was great and comes very highly recommended - but very busy!

Goddaughter born in Welcare Garhoud, all good.

City hospital also good.

Wouldn't take my worst enemy to Medcare, let alone my pregnant wife.

Firstly, congratulations.

We've had all three at Welcare and found then very good and not c-section happy like some of the hospitals out here.

The OBGYN we used was Dr Marcus Pace who is Maltese but lived in the UK. He is a man which the wife question at first but he is very good and as certain clients will not use him because he's a man. As a result he still has a very European outlook and a good attitude.

The head midwife is Amanda, a full on South African, and she does a great job of the delivery suites. But, doctors deliver out her not midwives as in the UK. Amanda also runs antenatal class and will even give you her home number incase any questions or problems.

If you want any more info shout or PM if you want.

Cheers,
Richard B.

Cheers all, thanks for the advice - I've sent my wife on a mission to do some more research into the Mediclinic and Welcare.

Will be in touch if I have any questions smile

Chilli jnr was born in The City hospital, and it was first class. Dr Deb was our..err, doctor and she delivered the boy by c-section as the Mrs couldn't go the natural route. Staff and facilities were brilliant.

Congrats and good luck.

My Mrs is pregnant, and although shes gone back to the UK now (wanted to share it family, especially elder grandparents)we had experience with Medcare and with American Hospital up to 30wks.

We are with Now Health and both Medcare and AH were direct billing, had a pretty decent package with them.

Initially we were with Medcare, visiting their branch at JBR every 4 weeks and had the 20wk scan at their main hospital. We were just a bit disappointed that they weren't too forthcoming with information. On the 16 and 20wk scans their noticed a low lying placenta and although they knew our intentions to have the birth back in the UK they didn't really say much. Then after visiting the doctor following the 20wk scan the doctor said "oh you can't have a natural birth, and you can't fly home either".....so the Mrs was pretty devastated at this point.

Anyway, we decided to go to AH for a 2nd opinion and although the scan showed the same condition the doctor gave us actual information and reassured us that its pretty common and that there was time for things to change........but flying wouldn't be an issue.

At 28wks all was fine, and she traveled home.

We just got the feeling that Medcare weren't giving us all the information expected for 1st time pregnancy and seemed very keen on C sections.

Sorry, lots of information there but that's our experience. I'm sure all are very good in Dubai, and you have the pick of some very good doctors.
