People a few doors down moved out, say 6 months ago, and left an old dirt bike behind. The property owner has since moved it out of the garage and left it on the other side of the road, opposite the house.
The lad that walks my dogs really wants it, but his mum obviously won't let him steal it!
Is there a protocol to follow here with regards to this lad legally obtaining it?
I realise he the doesn't own it, has no rights to it, etc, etc, but can he ask anyone (other than the long-departed owner) about rescuing it? It has no plates and no-one has set eyes on the house owner for months now.
Any ideas?
Cheers.

afaik you can't register dirt bikes, so like race cars there's no proof of ownership. just take it.

Only thing I can suggest is asking the Po-leece. The worst is he can't have it, so nothing changes, the best is they'll have some rule about if its not claimed within X weeks he gets to keep it.

Far better he goes down that route rather than fall foul of the law in these here parts...

Edit - or be Shirt and stick it to the man, yeah!

Surely by leaving it behind it became the property of the new owner of the house.... I'd simply ask him if you can take it.

It's not on the property anymore, its accross the road opposite the house. Also, the house is still empty, and on the market....has been for months.

Maybe I will take the house, and the bike that comes with it!

Mate, that would work perfectly. You can baby-sit the boy, and the Mrs can look after the dogs!
I might even get a bike!

Ian, if I had a job, I'd buy one...well, probably. Not ridden the autodrome, but it looks like it needs at least a 750?! I am a riding god, after all!

You can actually register dirt bikes as all of the bikes and quads that do the desert challenge have to be road registered.
