Grateful to hear if anyone owns one of these and how they have found it in the Middle East. Are maintenance costs ridiculous? What would one pay for a 2007 4.2 with around 60,000km?

DXB - appreciate what Dubizzle says but just wanted to get some info from people based on their recent experiences. There aren't enough of these on Dubizzle to build up a clear picture of price plus Dubizzle doesn't tell you about what it is like to own one.

Not sure why that matters to the question in hand DXB. Just wanted to canvass opinions on certain cars.

Mate, note to self.

If you want a sure fire way to lose a st load of cash on a car....buy a Jag. If you have loads of money and want to throw it away, then do.

- They lose money fast
- Are a bit of a mare to service and things can break off and go wrong (As with any car)
- They are difficult to sell (My mate has he immaculate one for sale for like 4 months on Dubizzle and it was a good one)

So in short, buy a decent Porsche. Easy to maintain, bloody reliable, fast and if you buy right you wont lose hardly any money. If anything, in the much longer term you will make money, assuming you get a limited one. Something like a 996 GT3 would be worth it. Also some nice Carrera 4's here for good value, or just get a Carrera S with decent rims and nice options.

End of rant.

I looked at a few XKRs when I first got here. V8, look nice, reasonable prices. I'm sure there's some good ones, but everyone I looked at (and I wasn't scraping the barrel budget-wise) had something pretty seriously wrong with it, ranging from random error messages on the dash to obvious drivetrain issues. Also doesn't help that they have aluminium wings etc, so when Mr Taxi driver takes a swipe at them it's a whole new panel. It was hard to find anything with a full Jag service history, so I'm guessing main dealer work isn't cheap

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm thinking about changing tack to something like a Boxster 2002-2004. What do you think? I figure it's not too expensive to buy in the first place and therefore I won't lose too much on it later on?
