I am in the market for a cheap road bike for the wife, frame size somewhere between 46 & 50cms should be fine

Its only going to be used on the trainer so does not have to be flash

There is one on dubizzle but I'm not getting any response from the seller

Any pointers appreciated

decathlon, same bike as mine can be had for 2400. can't complain for the money, especially after having the cantilevers set up properly by the shop at qudra [150chips it was including a new gear cable as i'd snapped one]

Triban 3 or 5 from Decathlon are great value. Bought the 5 for my wife a while ago and she is very happy with it, you could probably get something cheaper if it is only ever going to sit on the trainer but one of these will also serve as a decent road bike for the winter months if ever needed.

triban 3 is what i have. the 5 is 3000chips i think, only difference being frame colour and a carbon fork.

rode a friend's carbon frame. nice bike and less effort but not worth the 6000 price difference just yet!

Decathlon it is then, makes more sense to spend the extra 500 or so and get something new
