Given the law of averages and the number of nutters that live in my apartment block, one day one of them is going to drive in to me in the car park. It's a foregone conclusion and only a matter of time. I suspect the most likely way I'm going to be crushed to death / maimed is via people in SUVs that drive flat out over the speed bumps, using the straight bits as a drag strip, and pulling out of the blind 'give way' junctions whilst busy with other things more important to them than driving. I do try to keep three eyes out at all time, but some of them are so amazingly unpredictable that the inevitable will occur at some time.

So, how do you deal with a collision between cars on private land / in a car park? Do you still need to call the police to cover off the insurance liability?

Yes, yes and yes again.
Whilst we're here would it be a crime if I accidentally drove into Mrs C's car, got the red slip just so that I could get all the dents and scratches repaired on my car?

As Chilli says, yes and yes. Even on military property (which th police need permission to access) they have to attend.
