I used to go flying with some guys on evolve, out the back of the Arabian Ranches towards Bab Al Shams and thought I might head up there this Friday if anyone is interested in seeing how to make little pieces of aircraft out of one big piece smile

I went to the new flying club at Lisali a few weeks ago but there was talk of professionalism, club dues and being sensible - these don't really apply when I fly so made a hasty exit. Plus they all had bigger toys than me including a number of jets; I barely got my willy out for a wave for fear it would get slapped by a 12 foot rocketship.

Anyway, anyone fancies it I'll be the loner out in the desert at 7am on Friday.

i may join you. was reading a thread on the r/c section here where a total newbie wanted a ducted fan as a first aircraft. my first thought was what happened to our plans of the PH airshow?

still on same mobile no?

Still on the No. ending in 6304.

If you head out past the Ranches towards Bab Al Shams, over the bypass road there is the 1st roundabout where the cycle track starts, at the 2nd roundabout take a left and I'll be in there somewhere, providing it is not blowing a hoolie.

I'm surprised more PHers are not into R/C, its a cheap way to have an internal combustion engine (or electric jet) and fly/drive in the desert. I have seen some R/C buggies (Baja?) things do silly speeds/stunts in the sand!

You mean 3604?

Will be going cycling friday morn anyway so that's handy. What time?

Thought about a ducted fan as they're cheap enough at dragon mart. Problem is like you've experienced, the r/c crowd tends to be too civilised and hooning an aircraft around with zero training is generally frowned upon!

Slightly off topic , but I was bought a RC car that runs on fuel, any idea where I can buy the fuel locally?

Well, a few beers in and my phone number goes to rat-s#!t, yes, what you said.

Yes, those RC crowd are a little stuffy for my liking, all that safety and nonsense. I like to fly by the seat of my pants but would still urge using a trainer like a Cessna or it does get expensive quite quickly. I have burnt about 3K in a couple years, and haven't been flying for 20 months or so.....

Fuel for cars can be had at the hobby shops in Dubai Mall i think, also at the shop on defense (interchange 1) or down in Garhoud.

Hi Chaps, I am up for joining you for a spot of flying.... I live at the Ranches and I need an excuse to get my r/c planes out from under the bed, (not been unpacked since I got here), word of warning bring a helmet incase my ambition overtakes my talent.

RC fuel..... have you tried Dragon Mart, loads of decent model shops there, cheap too...

See you around hopefully

That sounds like we have the beginning of a PH display team smile

If anyone needs directions, let me know. As long as it is not pi$$ing down and blowing a force 10, I'll be there.

I left all my aircraft in the UK, but I will try and pop along to see some flying/destruction! I quite fancy getting another heli - technology has moved on a bit since I had mine 15 years ago!

My office used to be in the same building as the Lamborghini dealer, the car park was rather well stocked!. Mind you from my desk I could see the entrance to the service centre and there were some very bent cars being delivered!

What a lovely morning for flying!

The quicksilver had 3 flights with just a small amount of landing rash, a couple of broken spars that will gue easily.

The Tigermoth had many graceful flights and no damage to report.

The Turbojet was fast. very fast. And I ran out of talent. Nosed in and ruptured the cabin. It will glue though and be up again next weekend!!

I believe Shirt has a pic or two for my shame frown

Love that osprey.

You should get a 182, J3 Cub or similar to start, but that 'Little Butch' is quite nice. The Piper L-4 Grashopper in green is a very large aircraft, very stable.

Maybe the Catalina for sandy runways!!

I think next for me might be the Comet....

Whatever you do don't get a jet, single EDFs are a little underpowered and the twins are frighteningly fast. I'll bring the F-15 and Hawk next time you come up and you can see how fast I destroy them....

the 182s do look good but little butch looks better..... had a look on youtube and at half throttle it looks fairly benign. some of the model flyer forums say its not a beginner a/c but they also do proper taxis and wear flying helmets so they can shut up....

do i need to buy a receiver and gyro? want it waiting for me when i get back from hols. spare wingstays, prop etc. all going on the order!

I noticed there's an RC Plane shop at the new Camel Market in Lusayli, near the camel race track.

Might be worth a visit?
