Discussion
5% import duty on the (Cost of the car + Import cost)
So....make up an invoice for 1/8th the value and import it.
Bob can sort you out with shipping and getting it registered:

Dont bring spare parts in the car, tyres etc otherwise it will slow the process.

we need pics!CS is a good shout as well, good on you.
i have recently discovered you can get pretty much anything registered. modified, stripped and caged, doesn't matter. going to try and get my clubby registered as a feeler, and then anything goes.

I'd be careful on the value of the car, these guys are not muppets, especially bringing in something they know and recognise
I tried this with a race car a couple of years ago, it took about 3 weeks to get it out of the port
Agreed. i'll tell them what i paid for it. Anyway, don't they look at what you have it insured for ?I tried this with a race car a couple of years ago, it took about 3 weeks to get it out of the port
Anyhow, deposit paid, Bob contacted, just a month or so to wait now.
Has anyone done this with a motorbike?
I have a bike I don't really want to sell (the rest will go). A container that should be large enough to get a bike in, and although I have a mate that has agreed to store in UK it won't get used, and will be 3 years older if/when I return.
Same rules on the 5% tax? How does this work - bike is only worth approx £4-5k.
Thanks

ian is closer to the bike crowd than most.
that container sounds nice and spacious, tell us more........
I will drop Ian a note nearer the time when I know what is happening and what I am doing. that container sounds nice and spacious, tell us more........
Trust me the container will be fairly full. Don't want to leave anything in storage as it costs too much, and when you get back to it you bin it all anyway. Been there and done that - twice.
So it will either be coming, or binned. Easier to bin when I get there than think about it at home and if I "might" need it, so likely bring too much as we will likely have to downsize to come to DXB due to the cost of housing.

I will ask the teams rider who imported his / our CBR600RR race bike from the UK this season. 5% sounds about right though. Doubt the local customs guys will know to much about used bike prices but then your insured value is less, so if you have to make a claim.....Thanks
