Does anyone know, or can anyone recommend, a good bike mechanic who could give my bike a full once over and major service?

Ideally either DIP, Al Quoz or somewhere around DFC, but understand I may need to travel.

Sorry, should've been clearer - push bike. Pre-wedding weightless regime has started back up.

in which case add 'the hub' to mike's suggestions, next to ducati at the autodrome. has a cafe so you can sit and wait with a brew.

i am at al qudra 3-4 times a week if you want someone to cycle with. only been doing it a few weeks to try and get back to my fighting weight!

if there's a sandstorm rolling in i would just turn around and go home, had a horrible ride last night in those conditions.

Thanks Shirt.

Might try and head up tonight although weather doesn't look good. The bike hasn't turned a wheel in about 5 years and it's about 17 years old, although when new it was a very good (and expensive) bike - most of the bike shops told me to scrap it without looking at it, thinking they could sell me a new bike for 6k+

Might just see how it rides and gauge an idea of what needs replacing and repairing before I give it to someone to do.

Ride Bike Shop and Wolfies both wanted 2 weeks to look at it.

If you go to The Cycle Hub at Motorcity (lovely cafe in there), it's also worth checking out Revolution Cycles
on the other side of the road.

http://www.rcdxb.com

I *think* I saw a bike service area inside Adventure HQ (Times Square Center) too... but that might just be an area for building the ones that come in for stock.

if you are free tonight you shoudld take your bike up to the autodrome. it's free and as you're only lapping the club circuit it's only a short walk to the car if any problems arise.

I managed 10 miles up Qudra Road last night - god I'm unfit! Bike works fine - everything just needs a tune and tighten which is good.

I won't be at the Autodrome tonight - haven't got a helmet yet but have one in the UK that I'll bring back when I'm home next week.

I do plan on doing the Autodrome and Yas nights every so often as they seem a good set up.

I was at autodrome tonight, very well set up and well attended. That main straight is a bh into the wind!

was on al Qudra on Monday lunchtime, did the full "stick" or 38km.

I picked up my bike off dubizzle a couple of months ago after not being on a bike of any sorts for 30 years, it is fecking hard work.

if you do the stick part of the al qudra track in the AM you generally head out into a head wind, but can lterally fly back, whereas in the evening it is vice versa.

On the odd Wednesday I am in Dubai I head over to the autdrome and put a few laps in on the bike. So how many of us try and take the racing line around the circuit then........

get a roadbike steve, far better. i did the stick with my mate last friday, he was on a mountain bike and was totally knackered [he is fitter than i am] whereas i was on a racer and was maybe at 50% exertion!

i know what you mean about the wind. surely there must be a time of day when it's still? that sandstorm was the worst though, hated every second of the return leg!

i should be out there friday morning, trying to do 3 times a week.

Phil,

I have a road bike: its a Felt. Aluminium frame with c/f forks. Not as light as C/F bikes but not far off. Has Shimano SPD pedals etc. As i said previously, I got it off Dubiz.

Ian, yes, i too take the racing lines around the Club Circuit. max speed thus far is 48.8km/h coming out of turn 1 before being hit head on by the wind pounding down the main straight.

My 13 laps of the club was done at an avg speed of 28.8km/h. Very slow but i am geting into it.

ETA: i have been looking at C/F bikes, but feck me, I can buy a car for the same money!

48kph?! you must have a very aerodynamic head tongue out

jase's mate is a semi pro triathlete and reckoned there was absolutely no point in getting anything fancy to begin with. once you do then bringing one in from the uk is far cheaper.

his bike is about GBP10k and wrote one off smashing into a girl who had wandered out of the 'slow' lane at the autodrome so be careful taking that racing line! the serious guys have their head down and will be motoring.

haven't clocked my speeds yet but looks easy to set sectors for the qudra stick to compare week on week. need to get a cycle computer [and some lights!].

Pedal to the metal - literally! hahahahaha

There are some very fit ladies who go up on a wednesday night not that you get much chance to see them as they whizz by you.

On Monday, my avg speed going out on Al Qudra for 19km was 21.5km/h, coming back it was well over 35km/h due to the tailwind.

No way am I going to pay GBP10k for a sodding bike. Mine was just over AED3k on Dubiz with a fair few extras thrown in. That will do me for a very long time.

That's a good deal. There was nothing my size on dubizz. The decathlon one is decent enough for the money, just needs the derailer setting up properly.

Hear you on the ladies, following a nice lycra'd bum is good motivation!

I've got my Dad's old Orange P7. Steel frame, but light enough, with carbon forks. It's a Mountain Bike but I'm putting some hybrid type tyres on it as I do still want to get out and about.

Autodrome Wednesdays are definitely on my list as I reckon I could drag the Mrs down too.

I use RunKeeper app on my iPhone as my cycle computer - tells me everything I need to know in terms of distance, pace, time, tracks and records all the data and will compare runs/pace once you get some information on it.
