Hi all,

I am flying out to Abu Dhabi tomorrow and have an issue that is causing some concern. I am flying from Edinburgh to CDG with Air France and then connecting to an Etihad flight from CDG to Abu Dhabi, with just over 90 minutes between landing and taking off at CDG.

The problem is that I am unable to check in online on the Etihad website with a warning telling me to use the check in desk, but as it is a connection I should be just following the connection route.

My question is, to anyone who knows CDG, is there an area within the connecting flight route where I will be able to check in or will I have to go out of arrivals and then check in at the departures desk?

With the timescale I am a little concerned that this will not be enough time IF I will need to exit and check in at the check in gates.

I have tried to call Etihad on the help line but have got absolutley nowhere with these.

Cheers all

What did you buy? Edinburgh to Abu Dhabi with Etihad, Edinburgh to Abu Dhabi with air france or Edinburgh to CDG with Air France then a different purchase CDG to AbDhabi with etihad?

It was bought for me by Etihad staff staff travel, but is from Etihad from Edinburgh to Abu Dhabi with a stop over (90 minutes) in Paris CDG. I have never done a connecting flight before so this is all unknown to me

In Edinburgh you should be able to check in and get both sets of boarding passes since it's a through ticket. Online checkin is often a waste of time and causes these confusions. Since it's a through ticket you won't have to go through arrivals and check in again.

If you need further help, post on Etihad's social channels - the team that work on them will respond within 10 minutes and are massively better than anyone who works on the phones.

I'm up at EY HQ at least twice a week, what are you coming out to the sandpit to do?

are you taking hand luggage only? this is your only chance of avoiding immigration/check in at CDG.

He'll have flown now, but it isn't, if he is through ticketed it's just a transfer.

How does that work using different airlines for each leg? How can one airline check him in for another's onward journey?

Everytime I have done this I have had to go through immigration and check back in. Would love to know how this can be avoided.

Well in his case he was sold a ticket from Edinburgh to Abu Dhabi but Etihad essentially sub-contracted Air France to do the first bit, in all probability on a code share. So the Air France flight probably has an Etihad flight number as well and when he checked in he would do it just the same as if it was Air France. or Etihad, all the way.

But you can often do it anyway, a few months ago I was flying Windhoek in Namibia via Jo'burg and Abu Dhabi to Manchester with the Windhoek to Jo'burg bit being a different airline booked separately. At checkin in Windhoek I asked if they could check my bags all the way through to Manchester and they happily did that. They couldn't give me the boarding cards for the other bits but you can often get those at a transfer desk and not have to go landslide.

But, as I say, with his being booked together he should have his bags checked through and get the boarding passes at the beginning or the second on at a transfer desk at CDG.

i get it now. i read the OP as the flight being 2 seperate bookings but on the etihad website it shows that route as KLM/EY. no problem with that.

i have tried to do as you did in namibia a few times before but have been told that it wasn't possible. perhaps just uninformed check in staff as per usual.
