Hi there,

Would appreciate some views on the following:

1. Best 4 x 4 for the region in terms of reliability/cost effective servicing and resale value

2. Looking at Touraeg/ML/Land Cruiser/Prado etc

3. Budget circa 30,000 AED

4. Mileage concerns ? Some at this price point have very high mileage.

Thank you in advance

LandCruiser / Prado for sure from that list - plentiful and pretty reliable. Whilst European 4x4s might drive better, they don't hold up as well in the sandpit as the Japanese.

thanks.

and i guess as they are more prevalent, the servicing will be cheaper and parts more plentiful.

Landcruiser engines and gearboxes go on forever, it's the suspension and steering that get's wobbly as they age and parts over here are expensive (2nd hand parts are very scarce).

Assuming parts are cheaper and more plentiful in your region then you'll struggle to find a better car, the newer Landcruiser's are worth seeking out as they became a fair bit more refined as each model was replaced. Jumping between my old 100 series and then into the new 200 series is like night and day, but the 100 does have a invincible 'drive to the moon and back' feel about it.

Agree with all the rest, Landcruiser model or Prado/Landcruiser.

However, for 30,000aed you aint gonna get one less than 10 years old.

With this in mind, a good Mitsubishi Pajero will do the job. Not as well as a Landcruiser mind you, but there is a good resale market for the Pajero and they are very reliable, had a few.

.....and I would stay away from a Toerag (Tuareg)...and ML. Their values drop like stones...although to be fair, at 30,000aed they wont have much further to drop...however you will spend a fortune on maintaining them. Get a decent Jap Mitsubishi or Toyota with nice service history and you should be set.

How about a Hummer H3 - very cheap in Dubai. Not sure about reliability etc.
