Gulf 12 Hours and Maserati Troefo at Yas this Friday
Discussion
Tickets are 50Dhs on the door and Main Grandstand'll be open - though I imagine Johnny Rockets will be open as a second viewing point.
A healthy mix if cars in the small field - http://www.gulf12hours.com/entry-list/
It's not the Dubai 24hrs, but should be some decent metal out on track - plus a field of Maserati Trofeos will be running a race during the half-time break (yes, really).

Just back from Yas and happy to report that it was a decent showing. Yes, it's a far cry from the Dubai 24hrs but just as much access to the pits and the grid walk - Bentley is an extremely impressive bit of machinery.
Watched the start from Paddock Club overlooking turn 1, then headed over to Johnny Rockets to watch the cars coming down the hill and round the hairpin and back up the main straight (helped by a milkshake and fries). Then we headed to the Viceroy to watch the cars around the annoying Marina bit over shisha and drinks.
All that was missing was a few more cars on the track - as a spectator it was great. Took along my brother-in-law who isn't a motorsport guy and he loved it.
Dubai 24hrs is great for on-track action, but it's crap for spectators. I fully expect to be amongst the same 30 people who race down to the Turn 1 grandstand after the pit walk to watch them all barrel through turns 1-3. After that, I'll be sitting on the roof of the Wrongler at certain points of interest before I slope off home.
Annoyed that they've silenced the Maseratis somewhat since I ran them in the region 2 years ago. 30 of them on track at once was pretty special - shame no-one was there to watch it!

and on at the same time at the Dubai Autodrome you have:
1) UAE Sportsbikes
2) UAE Touring Cars
3) Middle East Radical Championship
4) Porsche Middle East Championship
Where the entry is free!

... and the track is much more interesting than Yas....
It depends on what purpose you go for. I go to shoot interesting cars, at an interesting circuit, which Yas ticks the boxes much more. The Autodrome is such a dull and bland circuit photographically - there's little colour in the run off which can have a huge impact on photos, especially with my style. The Dubai 24hr is a great race throughout the field, helped by the awesome sunset/sunrise light but the track is still photographically dull as dishwater.
To give you an idea - here are my photos from Gulf 12hr (Excuse the FB compression) - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.78044518... or the full set in better resolution - http://rallysportmedia.photoshelter.com/gallery/Gu...
Fair enough. Lovely pics, by the way. Agree Yas so much more photogenic. But as a circuit to drive, other than the flat out blind right right at the marina, fairly bland.
As you say, Dubai 24 hr can be photogenic at sunrise/sunset. What I particularly love about that race is the chaotic melee of cars of completely differing speeds, many with bits of bumper hanging together with duct tape.
