Hit the 'crater' at around 5:30pm on Saturday night - got home at around 1:30am Sunday morning thanks to a new tyre and AED 2,000 later.

To be fair, the copper, recovery bloke and backstreet tyre guy were very helpful.

It seems that these craters exist all over the UAE, not just in RAK.

It's winter in the UK now so I expect to see lots of rants from friends over there once the frost hits and thaws about the state of UK roads also.

I hit a "crater" that I didn't see coming at a small road in an industrial area in Sharjah at 100 km/h once. The force of the impact made my head hit the roof, no damage other than that...

Some of the roads in the Northern Emirates are in pretty bad shape.

I was in RAK on Sunday. Large stone chip travelling at 140km/hr. Front screen cracked. Needs replacing.

Joy.
