Is it the same as in the U.k with dealers taking your car as PX for one they are selling (including the obligatory dropping of one trousers of course)? What's the legal position, sold as seen for both the PX and the purchase apart from any warranty they might be offering (I guess worth nothing unless from a main dealer)?

PX is the usual situation, someone will view/value it and thats that.

Although the usuals of service history and lack of dents/scratches dont seem important at all here. More interested in if its had any paint at all, if it has then they will drop the price if not you should be o.k.

Cheers. My car has a small scrape on the bumper that I was going to get painted before I took it down there, do you think it's better just to leave it as is?

Probs just leave it, for the 500dhs or whatever it will cost to get it done they probably wont even notice it.

Have you ever looked at the level of used car prep on the forecourt

I've just been through this process, again, I had a couple of minor scrapes on my rear bumper from some tt with a trolley hitting my car at MOE. They weren't even mentioned when Audi did a valuation. The only thing they were worried about was returning the car to stock, so just stuck the original exhaust in the boot and they put it back on.

As an aside I have found that rather than negotiate on the price for trade in and the price of the new it is easier just to give the salesman a target price to change. If you're thinking of an Audi I can recommend Vivek at their used dealerships a proper petrol head and, unusually for Dubai, a good salesman too.

If you're trading in one make for a different one it is worth approaching the manufacturer of the trade in car for a price I did that when I traded in a Nissan for an Audi and got about 20k more.

Also don't be shy about asking the bank for a better interest rate I got them to knock 1pct off the rate they initially offered

Cheers John. I'm looking to trade up the Cayman to an E92 M3 to get some more room. Unfortunately I've not seen one at the BMW dealer for ages and due to traveling a lot with work I don't really have the time to sell and then buy privately, meaning I'll be dabbling in the world of non-franchise dealers. Anything I buy will be going to BMW for a warranty / history inspection before parting with any cash.

The BMW dealer in al ghusais had a two m3s in about a month ago. They are essentaiiy brand spankers but had not been delivered for some reason or other and we're deeply discounted. Can't for the life of me remember how much though.

Are you sure BMW will offer warranty on something they don't sell? However most used BMW will come with five years warranty and servicing.

Thanks, I'll see if they are still around. Not sure on the warranty, I need to talk to a BMW dealership. Hopefully you can have one put on a car that's been outside of the network as you can with Porsche. It's that or find one with an existing warranty and see if it can be extended. Don't fancy owning one without the cover, I suspect a DCT or engine failure is going to be megabucks to fix.

Im sure BMW will offer warranties on cars not purchased from them providing the car you are putting it on has met the usual service/maintenance requirements of the warranty.

If the car your trading in is within retailable age/mileage definately go the Porsche dealer and see if they will buy it. Trading in with BMW unless they have a used car division for non BMW's will result in them shifting it on to Porsche anyways with some margin across so good advice above go direct to get them to buy.

Getting interest rates knocked off with the bank can be a mixed bag, the banks typically advertise a certain rate, some will do discounts if your salary is above a certain level, some will discount if you ask and others flatly refuse under any circumstances, just depends on the bank and how much they want/need the business at that time.

I wouldn't put money on it myself - dealers here are notorious for trying to swindle their way out of warranty work for the smallest of reasons, so I'd be really surprised if they'd warrant a non-supplied car.

Keen an eye on: http://uae.dubizzle.com/motors/used-cars/?auto_age... for AGMC Dubai's selection of approved used cars, or try Abu Dhabi Motors in Abu Dhabi for cars.

Or find a decent example on Dubizzle that's still in warranty

Hi Shirt, yeah been a bit quiet of late a job change and some other stuff have me out of circulation but back in the game now!

Picked up the RS6 last Thursday and it is amazing, it's a bit of a barge after the TT but the speed is just effortless. It's also a bit of gin palace compared to the TT as well I mean who needs a TV and solar sunroof.

If the dealer supplied the car originally and then you bought it used from another garage you will be able to get an extended warranty providing its been serviced accordingly, if the cars come from the US or missed loads of services then yes no chance can you buy an extended warranty on it but a local supplied car that meets the criteria should be no reason why not.
