New job and a new contract results in my future being as secure as it can be in the UAE, this means two things:
A) I never have to return to Algeria
B) I need some new toys
I have the fun/track car sorted with my newly acquired S2000
Now I need a boat!
I’m looking for something in the region of 21ft, 150hp minimum, not too fussed if it’s inboard or outboard as long as its been well maintained, suitable for wakeboarding and general days out on the water.
Want to spend not much more than 75k
So if anyone hears or knows of a boat that might fit my bill get in touch.
Also if anyone has any boating experience here that wants to share their experience I would be interested in any hints or tips.
Thanks

As a recent purchaser of a boat, (albeit powered by big flappy things rather than an engine or two), I'd say as soon as you buy it, and most probably before you get it wet, it will start costing you more money. Then again more when you do take it out as things start to leak, break, fall off..
Best to keep some in reserve and I think insurance is compulsory- i haven't my details to hand, but QIS did me a good deal..
I can ask around as I know a couple of people who dabble with these things. Wrong sort of boat for my experience, but I think you get a lot more boat for your money once you go above 100K compared to below..

I have owned a boat before so am prepared for the bucket in the water that I will need to throw 500AED notes into.....but being a practical chap who isn't shy with a spanner or hammer I should be able to keep the service and maintenance cost down by doing some of the work myself.
I have found a boat yard in Abu Dhabi (next to the Brit club) that will dry berth the boat on a launch/recover and wash/flush basis for 10k per year. This sounds like an OK price and the location is very convenient.
Didn't know about the insurance, I will have to get some prices for this.
Yes you can get some nice boats for 100-150k range but this is out of by budget as I want to save for my other toy.

Didn't know you'd had a boat before and therefore were prepared for the experience..
10K sounds fine from what I've been told; worth paying to get a job like that done by someone else.. Insurance for me is mandatory for where it's stored, but I've a feeling it's a relatively new requirement. I can ask around, likewise for a suitable boat..

I've been through all this myself...on my second boat since I arrived in 2009. Mine's in dry parking at Al Bateen and it takes all the hassle out of it without risking all the growths etc that happen when you're in a wet mooring, even when antifouled!
Best of luck with your search...be good to see you out on the waves sometime
J.
Mine was in the water in Al Bateen, then moved it down to the Palm.
I had the full intention of doing most of the spannering myself, and did the Plotter installation etc....but.... when it is drippy wet in the summer, the last thing I wanted to do was go to the marina and take the engine covers off!!
The islands off AUH get busy, very busy with jetskis and general arsing about, be careful wakeboarding.

All helpful information, busy water is to be expected on nice days. In Pembrokeshire where I had my last boat it was a complete nightmare when the sun came out, everyone had their boat in the water.
I don’t suppose either of you with Abu Dhabi experience have a plot of the area showing the designated water sport areas as well as the no-go areas??
Jezzaa, are you still in AD? Would be good to meet up for a beer some time?
Sam

Deal done on my new boat!
Perfect spec for our planned usage, has the big 300hp v8 mpi MerCruiser motor, supported by a ton of service history invoices.
So now onto the hassle of getting the thing re-registered in Abu Dhabi, not so easy as I only started my new job last week......not yet in a position to be asking for the afternoon off to get a boat registered.
Yes Shirt you are the first invited to come and have a beer or two on the new toy.
Red Ensign already ordered to replace the lebo flag.
From what I have read there is no need for a tenancy agreement, just need visa, Emirates ID, No objection letter, bill of sale, boat import docs and a fist full of cash for the transponder.
I am meeting my PRO today so will ask what help he can provide.
Might be calling in a favour, who wants a s2000 for the day in exchange for lending me their 4x4 with a tow hitch?
