Just a "heads-up" to those of you who infrequently drive the DXB-AUH road (assuming those who do the drive daily have seen them). They have installed a shed load more speed camera's going both ways, often hidden in the trees of behind light poles. Think there is circa 6 on the way to AUH and something like 8 on the way back.

These are the grey/black tower type you now see springing up everywhere in DXB.

It has made the journey a bit longer now.

yup, 140km/h. The old ones are still working as well, but it is a lottery to know which ones have camera's in them.

Just a heads up that the last 2 cameras before you hit the bridge towards Abu Dhabi are set to 120kph - found out the hard way.

But to be honest, I can cope with the AUH cameras - the f*cker who sits in his Pathfinder under the Metro near the Greens is my nemesis. All the cameras on SZR don't flash at 120, but this dude catches you at that speed and stings you for 600Dhs a time!

Yep these mobile guys are a massive pita. I'd had 3 clear years on speeding fines and have picked up two 700 dhs fines in the last month from them

On the way into town the limit is posted as 120 and you can get away with 140, all the way past Ibn Battuta and JLT.

THEN, the limit is posted at 100 and you can get away with up to 120, just before where this guy sits.

I nearly got hit the first time I saw him there, I was doing warp 9 in the Jag and, go figure, a fortunately located bus saved me some impound time.

Trapster is your friend smile I used it all the way around my venture into the F1 and it didn't let me down. It had the location of every speed camera on the way from Saudi to Yas, and the best thing is people can add the new cameras to the network and it shares the location to everyone else through frequent updates.

Ahha..! so that's how I got the 4 fines in 4 days from as I certainly didn't see any cameras flash.

My Jumeriah 3 - Jebel Ali journey has cost me a small fortune this past fortnight.

I've never heard of this trapster, looking at their website it looks excellent but how does it work - do you need a data connection with GPS running all the time?
If so, that makes for a very expensive solution doesn't it?

It does need the GPS running, I'm not sure about the data connection as I leave mine on anyway. I hammered alot of data while visiting but then again I don't pay for my phone bills smile

It's free to download so have a go and see.

Thanks.. I tend to set the cruise control at about 139 which slows progress down, but hopefully thats ok.. Discovered a camera hidden in a 100 zone as you rejoin SZR from the Mafraq road. That might have got me a, but no text messages yet..

Just out of curiousity, lets say you went through one of these cameras at oh.... 240km/h....and you and your car were visiting from another country (so they can't impound it?)
Edit to add: I just checked their online system, all seems clear smile - surely the fines would be online 2 weeks after the offence if one had missed the camera and not slowed down?

I think the Gulf countries share fines, as Oman fines come through to the UAE

I would not say 2 weeks is representative of the time it takes for you to see a fine.

I have had Oman fines going back 12 months show up recently.

Looks like I just got pinged on Oman, 130 in an 80 area. Still being in an Oman registered car it is only OMR 10 and no points.

Am I right in thinking it is max 10km over the staed limit in Oman? Thats the rule I always stick to
