Hi everyone, looks like I may be relocating to Dubai in the New Year after 6 years of commuting!!! So, the most important aspect of the relocation costs, how much is annual membership going to cost for somewhere like the Montgomery for me and my Wife?

Couple of arms and at least 1 leg.

Most of the clubs are around 25k a year each. The ranches is the cheapest I know at about 18. You can get week day or off peak memberships too though.

As above, pricey.

I've asked a mate who is a member there, would expect it to be around 30k with possibly a joining fee, that's if they are accepting new members.

How good a golfer are you? Whilst Montgomerie is a good 'club' (social, facilities) it is probably the worse course in Dubai imo.

Edit - His family membership was 27k no joining fee.

That's a good point, the last time I enquired at the Emirates Club, there was a 2 year waiting list.

Montgomerie the worst course? I'd rather play that than the Ranches & The Faldo.

(All imo) Objectively Ranches is a much better course than Montgomerie although the work they are doing to help with the water table encroaching on the course makes it look a real mess.

Agree Faldo isn't great, especially the front 9 but if you are a member of Faldo then you have the option of Majlis which is the best layout in the UAE bar none.

Conditioning at Montgomerie is pretty patchy as well.

If I were to choose one to join I would actually choose Els, great course, great conditioning year round and nice clubhouse now the permanent one is open.

I joined Sharjah in June, by the time I have played all the Order of Merit stuff which is around 12 events in peak season I refuse to pay Dubai prices for membership.

I am off 9 and the Wife is off 12, we want something as much for the social as the Golf and we are looking at living in Jumeriah Park so something fairly close. I played the Montgomery and it was O....K.....

As above, from an overall club perspective the Montgomerie is great, perhaps only rivalled by Creek but that is a lot further away from JP.

When I say the course is the worst, we are bloody spoilt here, they are all pretty damn good layouts in the grand scheme of things.

Emirates is just as close to JP, better golf but less of a social side as I understand it. They do charge a joining fee though, a mate looked at Single membership and year 1 would have been around 40k, would expect a waiting list there as well.

Sounds like the Monty would be a good fit for you both, we'll have to get a round arranged when you get here.

Cool. I've never actually played the Els....I don't even know where it is. Played the Creek yesterday, and it was good.
I love Al Badia though...Don't know why, just really like it and play my best golf there...which is still ste.

Al Badia is a nice resort course I think, some really pretty holes with great backdrops of Burj, Emirates Towers etc.

Els is in Sports City, so in a line along Emirates Road heading towards AD, you have Ranches, Autodrome, Cricket Stadium, Els tucked in amongst the Victroy Heights villas. Well worth a visit, cracking course.
