So, he wants either new or 2nd hand
Saloon, Sports, Coupe, or SUV
4 seats
Not bothered about badge, image, satnav, bluetooth etc...wants performance AND economy (?!)
Not interested in posing, but doesn't want to look a tt either
Will ensure service records etc is maintained

Budget, 100k.

ps - He likes the look of the Hyundai Tucson.

I know, I know, but help me out with a shortlist!

How about a (almost) mechanically perfect Mustang GT?

More economical than a Prado, faster in a straight line than a 997 Carrera and with groovy red leather.

His for 45k

(Best used only in winter months)

tell him to drive the kia, that'll knock that idea on the head.

latest kias have taken a step up in terms of looks but the interiors are poor and ride/handling is nn existent. suspension is woeful. i've driven the cadenza, carens, optima and sportage and they're all the same. actually the sportage is worse.

didnt see looks weren't important. in that case i'd suggest a dodge charger, cheap as chips and a hemi v8!

perosnally if i needed a 4 seat family car in dubai it would be a bmw v8 5 or 7 series. tons of them around and much cheaper than they would be in the uk to purchase and run.

Good shout on the Focus ST - think they start at 95k brand new.

He could pick up a decent golf GTi with warranty and a plethora of like cars for 100k which would be 1-2 years old with a warranty and reasonable mileage

Thanks gents. I think a Golf GTI or the ST might be a bit "young" for him though.

Well, if he seriously considers a Hyundai Tucson and Kia Cadenza...all hope is lost! Let him buy one of those and we can turn back to discuss more interesting topics... smile
