Anyone out there who wouldn't mind handing out some free advice?

I am getting some details through later today of the offer but I feel the need for some advice on the financial aspects; cost of living, housing, schools etc. I have done a fair bit of research over the weekend but would still appreciate some up to date input!

Many thanks,

John

I'm still here in Doha as well. Nearly 8 years now! PM me if you want to ask anything.

Cheers

Out of interest, how do you chaps entertain yourselves out there. I did a week on a job based in Doha and there didn't seem to be much to do bar wandering around the shopping centre, paying exhorbitant prices for drinks in hotel bars and paying loads to use said hotel's private beaches.

Did think if I stayed longer I would join the sailing club.

As I said just interested, cheers.

Hi I'm in doha, well I'm on a beach in Thailand at the min but ill be back soon. I'd say the key to surviving in doha is a good circle of mates who get out and do things. Personally I split my time between the track and socializing and off shore scuba diving in the off season

Living costs should be as follows
12000 - 14000 a month for renting a furnished 2 bed in west bay including all bills..don't bother with the pearl accommodation, the roadworks for the next 4 or so years are making living there horrendous.
6000 - 8000 a month socializing and food for 2 people going out every weekend for meals with mates etc
2500 / 3000 a month will put you in a Saab 2.8t aero or 3.2 Alfa 159 rental
500 a track day
700 for a night time track day
250 for a couple of scuba dives

Anything else goes in ur pocket. You can live +|- 20% of this depending on ur lifestyle

what's losail like to drive? looks like it doesn't flow very well to me.

i am afraid I have never driven another track in anger so I can't compare but I love it. Mainly because it challenges you in every way at some point of the circuit.
The straight gets me to 250kph down to a hairpin which is great to play safely with the back end, turn 3 is over 100mph at full throttle and commitment there are several short straights for dive bombing down the inside and a fantastic 3 bend right hander to try master a balance of trail braking and carrying speed again at around 100mph... I also like that the organizers let us do what we like so long as we apply common sense. So drifting in a pack of cars would get you black flagged but off on your own they leave you to it.

Thks for all the help! Losail sounds great, I guess the weather makes bikes very much a seasonal affair but is there a good motorbike scene? The MotoGP every year must encourage a following of sorts?!

I think I will probably accept the offer subject to client approval...

Before you do anything make 100% sure you will have a multi exit visa, get it in the contract.
Loads of motobike track days, lots of motocross with a special motocross circuit at losail and a few clubs who ride in the desert.
