Hi guys - apologies...I was hoping I could get a quick answer from our friend Shirt. Carrying on from the conversations re my truck and giving it better road manners!

So Shirt...you advised me to get a geo alignment done, but I checked with MSW and they don't do 4x4s anymore. And the guy I spoke to just recommended a couple of random tyre firms and was, to say the least, completely non-committal! On my travels, I've come across Icon Auto in Al Quoz, and they told me they do alignments on lifted 4x4s, and there was much evidence of modified trucks and quad bikes scattered around the place. Also looked like a tidy setup. Have you had and dealings or know of their reputation?

Thanks dude,
J.

Icon have (or at least had) a good reputation.

I used to use them before I found Saluki (who send there stuff to MSW?).

Speak to Jensen at Robbie's Motorsports. They have lots of "trucks" and he should be able to tell you where to send yours too.

Ok ... So I'm here at icon. Friendly people ... And 150dhs for alignment. Sounds cheap? Or about right? Or have I not asked for the right thing?

just make sure it's a proper alignment not just tracking. its not a 5 minute job as most garages believe

he said something about toe, camber etc. it's been in there for nearly an hour and they've got technical looking things bolted to the wheels! I know, I'm rubbish wink

Ok ... So they've finished but he said its not 100% since the tyres are slightly too big for their equipment! He sent me to Radial tyres instead just around the corner after calling them first. Didn't charge me anything.

We use MSW for all our saloon cars as we know what we get. We've tried many others and have stopped using them as their service is atrocious, to say the least. For the larger, lifted vehicles, we use Future Tyres who are opposite MSW.

Not much different actually...they said the alignment was ok to start with, so there wasn't too much adjustment. I'm just glad it's something else I know is good.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

Not the UAE, but I had a full "Geo", geometry, set up on my Elise years ago in the UK. They certainly bolted various things to the tyres/wheels and took laser measurements before adjusting toe, camber, etc. IIRC it was >£100 at the time and took a couple of hours, so it sounds like they were doing the right things.

I had been told it would give me a miraculous improvement, but I never felt any difference! To be fair, it didn't feel like there was anything wrong in the first place.

The Land Rover guys (facebook forum) are not always complementary about Icon, but I have not used them myself. I go to Saluki too.

Cheers

Rich

for 150chips it is well worthwhile. next i'd try pressures and a steering damper upgrade [single $100 max, or dual for twice the cost]. from then on the costs and effort only goes one way whilst rewards are variable, so best stick to the cheap fixes.
