Eeeeek I'm so excited! I just received my contract to join a lovely place out in Dubai!

Being a bit of a dork, I'm bound to end up needing someone to help me, Chilli - will you take me under your wing? I know you have an alcohol licence wink

Questions.... getting stuff sent from the UK, I might just send a little box of things I like, do you have any suggestions for carrier please?

Digs: I thought work found me an apartment, but the contract says AED allowance?

The agency are clarifying a few things biggrin

Really looking forward to a big change and a new adventure, hope to meet up with anyone willing!

biggrin

Where will you be working as this will play a part in where you live.

go away, we're full!

shipping, i used robinsons relocation. £550 for 70 cu ft, fully insured and collected / delivered at each end. i'm sure some may remember how my arse was twitching when it cleared customs, but turned out ok in the end.

having a housing allowance is better than having accom. provided. anything saved goes straight in your back pocket. better to flatshare or rent a serviced apt. IMO until you find your feet and your way around.

you still working in denstistry? gentleman geoff is your man, sticks his fingers in anyone's mouth so i hear.

get over, survive summer, take a look around, enjoy.

Excellent news! Is it a private firm or a big company? My teeth are already shot, so there's non hope for me!
Not having an alcohol licence is no issue these days, as there are plenty of people who will deliver it to you for a small fee. It only really helps if you get busted with it.
Have a look on Dubizzle.com for places to rent, there's millions of them, but prices do seem to have shot up this year, so make sure your allowance will cover something decent.
Shirt and Dusty will show you the drinking establishments as I am too old these days, and prefer the patio and a nice red at home.

Oh, are you any good at baby sitting? Can you make it here within the next hour or so? Need to wash the car you see.

Good luck with the move and I am always here to help if needed....not sure with what, but I shall do my best so just shout if you need anything.

Cheers.

Happy to babysit, if I can chill on the patio biggrin

Just looking at the map, budget etc Al Barsha is a possibility (close to work & a metro). We'll see what happens.

I have to take a viva type exam to get my working licence, it's a private company but quite big - lots of international clinicians.

When the boss skyped me for a chat, I had no idea the camera automatically started on my mobile, so his first impression is of the inside of my ear and then me giggling like a right child. Great! hehe

Barsha is nice. Good access to most of the decent parts of town. Plenty of bars too. And shawarma shops smile

Spoke to my new manager today, they'll put me up for 2 weeks, I can either stay there or look for my own digs using the allowance after. Had a good look round dubizzle, won't get much change (being a fussy old moo) so if the digs are good I'll stay.
Wait and see.....

Starting to feel real now, have to hand my notice in this week - anxious!

there's a list on the government website. in short: no drugs [including medicines on the banned list - mainly opiates], alcohol, porn or anything made in israel.

my shipment was held in customs and i was told i had to attend as they reckoned i had porn and weapons [including a pistol] in there. was threatened with CID and my arse was squeaking for a few days until everything turned up at my flat and hadn't even been opened.
