Where?

Without going and spending half a life time in the HSBC in Deira, only to be told they don't do it, where can I take a bucket load of mixed 1Dhs/50/25fil coins and have them converted in to paper money?

Times are hard.

I feel your pain.

try Lulu Hypermarket, in the area they hold the shopping bags and stuff. The one in my neighborhood accept coins, but YMMV.

or you could try petrol stations, as they seem to be short of change whenever I go there.

We need those Coinstar machines they have in supermarket lobbies in the UK where you load in all your coins in return for a voucher for the value (less 2.5% handling charge) to spend in the supermarket.

Alternatively, just start paying for things with stacks of coins - I had to do that for a ZWZ delivery recently when I realised I had no cash after placing the order. The delivery guy was soooo happy to have to carry 75Dhs in 1Dhs coins back on his bike I'm sure...

Not at all helpful, but about 15 years ago, I visited AD to spend a week at the banks head office. Due to being a junior, I had to stay in a 4 star hotel as my grade wasn't high enough for a 5 star. The issue was that my hotel didn't have a bar, therefore I'd grab a taxi to the nearest one each evening. The fare was only 3 dirhams (15 years ago) and I once paid with 6 dirhams coins.....double the fare. The cabbie strarted to drive off then lowered his window and threw the coins back at me, and sped off!

Anyway, how much are we talking about? Keep it in the Dar as the McDonalds fund?

Alternatively, bag it up and give it the office junior and let him keep 10% if he agrees to queue up at the bank.

The little counter opposite Carrefour in Mall of the Emirates, where the Carrefour guys go for change.

Drop them off they'll ask you to come back in 20-30 mins

I reckon there's got to be over 600AED in the pot, so nothing to sniff at.

It's a good shot about the office boy - I'll ask him if he wouldn't mind doing it for a cut.

Cheers guys.

I've changed just under 1000 at that counter I mentioned in MOE, too under half an hour

You can spend the time checking what you can spend it on (I went straight to Golf House!)

Thanks.

Let me know what the shop is called - I generally avoid MOE.

Sucked it up and went to MoE early on Friday morning. Carrefour cash counter counted all the coins (624AED worth) and 30 minutes later handed me some crisp notes.

Nice and easy.
