Not really much of a motoring question, but can anyone recommend somewhere to get modern canvas art in Dubai that's not going to break the bank? My apartment has all the warmth of a school dentist's waiting room so I need to break up the bare white walls with something. I've had a look around the malls and all I can find is either Gallery One type stuff (photos of the skyline) or a small selection of stock prints in Ikea. It would be great to find something modern that also had a connection with the region. Any ideas?

My office is slap bang in the middle of the arty district in Al Quoz (Al Serkal Avenue) and from a recent schlep around the galleries on art night you'd be looking to spend big bucks to get anything decent.

I'd recommend looking in at Gulf Photo Plus (same area) as they have a lot of local photographers showcasing their work all the time. They do big prints etc there. http://gulfphotoplus.com/limited

Failing that, if you find a decent image you like - you can buy high-res stuff on loads of sites online, then I would highly recommend https://www.customyze.co/ to print it and put it on canvas for you. They're based in JLT, but have a decent website that actually works and the results are pretty darn good tbh

Blimey! I'm in Al Serkal all the bloody time at the moment!

Anyways - and you may well laugh at this - Dragonmart has a couple of great shops that sell loads of canvas work. There's a lot of tat to get through, obviously, but there's also a load of good stuff cheap as chips.

At home we have some really nice pieces that we've collected and the Dragonmart stuff sits quite happily next to it.

There are some fantastic artists/galleries in Bastikya in Bur Dubai, plus have a lot of local/regional connections and flavour. You can manage your budget relatively easily with artwork ranging in prices.

We've picked up quite a bit from down there now.
